General Summary: Under the direction of the Juvenile Court Judge provides secretarial, clerical and technical support to the Judge with emphasis on relieving judge of administrative details as well as perform court related tasks as requested.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Generally, perform variety of advanced clerical and administrative duties as directed by the Judge.; Responsible for ordering files for court daily; Responsible for making sure files are returned to the Clerk's office after court; Maintain general knowledge of the court rules and processes and procedures of the court system..
- Maintain judge's appointment calendar, receives/directs/screens phone calls, receives and distributes mail, consults with attorneys, litigants, county officials and general public as required; Researches and responds to requests of the Judge, including preparing appropriate correspondences relating to assigned cases. Compose and type correspondence and other documents from general instructions as desired by Judge while maintaining privacy of all documents and discretionary distribution of information; Schedule conferences and meetings by contacting participating individuals and arranging facilities.
- Manages the Judge's court calendar, including dates and time for hearings, motions and trials; Plans, schedules and distributes court calendar; Responds to inquiries regarding dates and time of calendars, including coordinating and notifying litigants and attorneys; Tracks cases on calendar and monitors status; Perform various duties in the courtroom such as coordinating paperwork, recording dispositions, and providing technical guidance and information relating to legal status, court policies and court procedures; May update statistical information and dispositions on electronic case management systems.
- Maintains the appearance of the workspace area in an orderly and aesthetically pleasing manner; ensure that proper security and safety measures are observed at all times.
- Keeps judge informed of events and problems requiring his/her attention, and perform related duties as required; May act as liaison between other departments and the Judge.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma.
Experience: Three years of Administrative, Office and/or Legal Secretarial experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of legal terminology including relevant rules, policies, procedures, and practices.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Manage court case calendars.
- Maintain effective and professional working relationships with judges, attorneys, court personnel and public.
- Organize and handle confidential material.
- Utilizing computers and applicable software.
- Must be able to operate a variety of automated office equipment such as printers, facsimile machines, and telephones; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Serve as backup to office co-worker during their absence due to sick leave, vacation, etc.
Licensing:
- Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

- Equipment: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
- Verbal: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.
- Math: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
- Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
- Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
- Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
- Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
