The Department
The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Clinical Trials, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. The Alfred Health Clinical Haematology and Medical Oncology service offers a multidisciplinary setting for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of the entire range of haematological and oncological diseases.
The Role
Alfred Cancer are seeking Administrative Patient Navigators who are an integral part of the haematology/medical oncology multi-disciplinary team, playing an important role in providing the first line response to incoming calls from patients, carers and referrers in the community. They are an expert in supporting patient flow through the cancer care system and in facilitating timely patient access. Patient Navigators provide administrative support for multidisciplinary team meetings as well as ensuring patient appointments are scheduled and billed appropriately. This role is a direct support to both Clinical Nurse Consultants and Nurse Practitioners working within Haematology or Medical Oncology.
Skills and Experience Required
- Personable, customer focused approach, and commitment to high quality service
- Previous health service administration experience including Health IT systems i.e. EMR, iPM
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to interact and deal with a large professional team
- Demonstrated high level time management and interpersonal skills
- Motivated and enthusiastic with a positive attitude toward work and colleagues
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word for Windows, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Sound administrative and organisational skills as well as experience in handling day-to-day accounts and reporting.
- Flexibility to attend to a variety of administrative duties
- Understanding of confidentiality and privacy legislation
- Demonstrated ability to plan work flows, prioritise and delegate in order to meet deadlines
- Understanding of VINAH data collection
