About the role -Sr/Principal Asset Management Engineer

The Sr/Principal Asset Management Engineer is responsible for managing the lifecycle of IT assets across Nexperia’s global infrastructure. This includes hardware and software inventory, procurement coordination, compliance tracking, and optimization of asset usage.

The role supports IT operations, financial planning, and cybersecurity efforts by ensuring accurate asset data and governance. Responsibilities and expectations vary by job grade.

What you will do

Senior Asset Management Engineer

  • Support day-to-day asset tracking and inventory updates.
  • Assist with hardware and software provisioning and de-provisioning.
  • Maintain asset records in the ITSM system (e.g., ServiceNow).
  • Perform daily data entry and maintenance of software and hardware assets in the IT Asset Management database (e.g., ServiceNow, Snow, Flexera).
  • Process software and hardware requests, ensuring proper approvals are documented.
  • Assist in the tracking of assets throughout their entire lifecycle (from receipt to disposal).
  • Help conduct periodic physical audits of hardware assets to reconcile against database records.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of software licensing models for key vendors
  • Support senior team members by gathering data and generating reports for license reconciliations and audit preparations.
  • Use software discovery tools to track installation and usage across the network.
  • Assist in managing vendor documentation, including filing contracts, quotes, and support agreements.
  • Help track software maintenance and subscription renewal dates.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and training sessions to build knowledge of ITAM best practices.
  • Learn to analyze data for discrepancies and bring them to the attention of senior team members.

Principal Asset Management Engineer

  • Manage asset lifecycle processes including acquisition, deployment, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Ensure compliance with software licensing and usage policies.
  • Conduct regular audits and generate reports for finance and compliance teams.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of software licenses, hardware assets, and contracts within the SAM tool.
  • Support the analysis of software usage data to assist with license reconciliation and true-up preparations for SAP, Microsoft, and Oracle.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of complex licensing models and product use rights for key vendors.
  • Assist in tracking the end-to-end lifecycle of IT assets, from procurement to disposal.
  • Support the lead in managing relationships with multiple software vendors and resellers.
  • Play a key supporting role during vendor audits by gathering required data, preparing reports, and documenting evidence under the guidance of the Senior Lead.
  • Process software purchase requests and assist with the validation of vendor quotes to ensure alignment with existing contracts and license positions.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal teams regarding software requests, license queries, and asset information.
  • Support the Senior Lead in preparing reports and dashboards on license compliance, inventory status, and cost-saving opportunities for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Finance, and IT teams to ensure accurate asset data flow and process alignment.
  • Optimize asset utilization and support cost-saving initiatives.
  • Execute the day-to-day operational processes for Software Asset Management (SAM) and Hardware Asset Management (HAM).

Senior Principal Asset Management Engineer

  • Develop, implement, and govern the enterprise-wide strategy for software asset management (SAM) and hardware asset management (HAM).
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on complex licensing models for SAP, Microsoft, and Oracle, including understanding product use rights, cloud services, and subscription-based models.
  • Conduct regular license positions (LP) and true-ups for key vendors to ensure compliance and avoid costly penalties.
  • Analyze software usage data (e.g., using Flexera, Snow, SCCM) to identify optimization opportunities for cost savings and re-harvesting licenses.
  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of IT assets, from procurement and deployment to maintenance and disposal.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for software vendors, managing audits, negotiations, and strategic contract discussions.
  • Translate complex licensing terms into actionable intelligence and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Present regular reports on software compliance status, cost savings achieved, and risk exposure to senior management.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, manage team workload, and ensure accurate and timely execution of all SAM processes.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the team to measure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Evaluate, implement, and manage advanced SAM tools and platforms to improve data accuracy and reporting capabilities.
  • Drive the integration of ITAM processes with other IT Service Management (ITSM) practices, such as Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and ServiceNow.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, policies, and procedures for the ITAM function.

What you will need

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Senior Asset Management Engineer: 1–2 years of experience in IT operations or asset management.
  • Principal Asset Management Engineer: 3–5 years of experience in IT asset management or related roles.
  • Senio Principal Asset Management Engineer: 5+ years of experience with leadership in IT asset management.
  • Certifications such as ITIL, IAITAM, or SAM are highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational and data management skills.
  • Familiarity with ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Ivanti).
  • Understanding hardware and software lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of software licensing models and compliance.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • For higher grades: strategic thinking, leadership, and cross-functional influence.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant management of IT assets across Nexperia.
  • Support operational efficiency, financial planning, and risk mitigation through effective asset governance.
