Medical Laboratory Technician (Student MLT)

A Brief Overview
Under the General supervision of the Manager and technical guidance of the department MT/MLS, performs general laboratory testing in the various sections of the laboratory, performs control testing and initiates troubleshooting steps for problem areas. Performs chemical, histochemical, or morphological analysis on specimens using laboratory using laboratory instrumentation, manual methods, and microscopy after completion of clinical practicums in the appropriate areas. All paid duties must be performed outside of regular scheduled academic hours.

- Analyze specimens with precision and accuracy
- Call critical values and document according to policy
- Perform Analysis in a timely manner as determined by the order priority.
- Perform and documented QC according to policy
- Use QC to validate testing results
- Recognize and documented malfunctions, performed appropriate repairs when possible.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and enrolled in an accredited School of Medical Laboratory Technology with clinical training in progress in this lab, with plans to complete an Associate’s in Medical Lab Technology or certification by a nationally recognized agency as a MLT Required
Experience Qualifications
- Clinical training in the school of Medical Laboratory Technology for the areas to be worked Required
Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, applications and tests.
- Knowledge of medical laboratory safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record.
- Maintain patient, team member and employer confidentiality. Comply with all HIPAA regulations.
- Display a positive attitude and is a positive agent for change.
- Work as part of a team and collaborate with co-workers.
