In This Position...

The Corporate Occupational Health Nurse Manager is accountable for establishing and overseeing standards for the performance and results of the Nursing team. The role closely partners with the Senior Director Physician, North America, to address complex nursing and patient care issues. The role also audits the maintenance of accurate documentation for confidential medical data including employee health records, medical leave of absence, etc. The role has expertise in administering physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and screenings, and the counseling and educating of patients.

What You'Ll Do...

Emergency Preparedness

  • Development and dissemination of baseline medical protocol Standing Orders.
  • Telephonic and/or e-mail consultation with plant medicals as needed related to emergency preparedness and clinical treatment protocols.
  • Collaborates with Senior Director Physician and Corporate Safety in emergency situations to address UAW concerns and ensure compliance with emergency medical treatment protocols in the plants.
  • Assist Ford locations with development of local policies and procedures as needed.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Create, revise and update company policies and procedures for the Quality Manual to include and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Complete annual OSHA recordkeeping audits at targeted plant facilities to ensure compliance with OSHA recordkeeping requirements.
  • Interface with external health related organizations (e.g. Centers for Disease Control, OSHA, NIOSH) as necessary to ensure compliance with health regulations and/or receive direction in emergency situations.
  • Communication with Federal OSHA for clarification and interpretation of federal regulations.
  • Assist with development, testing and maintenance of the OHSIM/EMR (OSHA logic) system.
  • Assist with maintenance of the audiometric software system.
  • Telephonic and/or e-mail consultation with plant medicals as needed in regarding Corporate policies on:
  • Participate in promoting web-based access.
  • Identify error trends in OSHA recordkeeping practices
  • Recommend corrective actions
  • Interact with local plant management regarding results
  • OHSIM/EMR
  • OSHA Recordkeeping
  • Medical Surveillance
  • FMLA
  • ADA
  • DOT
  • Other regulatory requirements

Audit

  • Verify licensing credentials for company medical personnel on an annual basis.
  • Verify compliance with company training requirements for medical personnel on an annual basis, ie. BLS/ACLS certification, etc.
  • Verify compliance with Health Operating System.
  • Perform staffing studies of medical departments to assess staffing needs.

Case Management

  • Provide guidance for management of specific complex cases.
  • Interface with workers' compensation administrators/supervisors to support case management efforts.
  • Participate in plant case management meetings for assigned plant locations.
  • Assist Executive Physicians with 18G06 monthly review.

Policy & Procedure Development

  • Create, revise and update general policies and procedures for the Quality Manual.
  • Work with Ford Land, Recruiting and the NESC to ensure new Ford building locations are assigned to specific medical facilities.
  • Participate in projects related to changes or improvements in plant medical department operations.
  • Participate in projects related to changes or improvements in Global Occupational Health Services operations.
  • Communicate with IT personnel for appropriate mapping of the OHSIM/EMR systems, etc.
  • Act as consultant for U.S. and Canadian Medical Departments.

Resource

  • Provide general and individualized coaching, guidance and counseling to medical facilities as needed to ensure standardization and consistency of business practices.
  • Act as subject matter experts on issues affecting occupational health for plant medicals, local management, safety and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Interface with Corporate Safety as necessary in an advisory role.
  • Interface with plant HR Managers as necessary in an advisory role for occupational health related matters.
  • Interface with upper management (HR Staff) as necessary in an advisory role for occupational health related matters.
  • Provide direction and support to Human Resource Associate in newly created locations.
  • Medical representation at Company/UAW Advisory Board.
  • Medical representation at Safety Process Review Board.
  • Interface with external professional organizations (e.g. AAOHN, ANA, AAAHC).
  • Provide medical coverage for company sponsored events as requested
  • Participation in community service: 
  • Provide medical coverage backup to WHQ medical in emergency situations 
  • Interact with Purchasing regarding medical goods and services.
  • Assist with contractual obligations (e.g. UAW salaried nurse contract requirements) as indicated
  • Provide medical coverage and expertise in company sponsored corporate citizenship promotions, ie. flu vaccines at Focus Hope.
  • On individual basis per company policy
  • Participate in the contract development process
  • Oversee budgetary issues

Training

  • Provide continuing educational credit opportunities for plant medical personnel through Company sponsored training such as EMR, OSHA, and Physical Assessment Classes.
  • Provide opportunities for OSHA Recordkeeping training on an annual basis.
  • Develop clinical content for other company conferences upon request (i.e. NJCHS).
  • Review of requested and/or referred materials for appropriateness of application within Ford Motor Company, i.e. vendors, video tapes, medical supplies, training seminars, goods and services, etc.
  • Develop topic related presentation materials for use by Global Occupational Health Services management.
  • Submit necessary applications and documentation for CME certifications through various accredited organizations.
  • Provide updates as necessary for previously trained personnel.

Other

  • Establish yearly Global Occupational Health plant medical department objectives
  • Other duties as they arise.

You'Ll Have...

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience.
  • 8+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s degree in the nursing field coordinating nursing activities, developing health programs, and maintaining a medical recordkeeping system
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Unrestricted state licensure in the state of practice

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience.
  • 5+ years of work experience with a Master’s degree
  • 2+ years experience in nursing leadership and team management
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse by the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN) or international equivalent
