Job Description:

Reporting to the VP Quality – Consumer Groups, works with occasional supervision and from broad guidelines and objectives.  The primary duty of this position is to provide a wide variety of management leadership in quality, reliability and process improvement activities to internal and external stakeholders. This position serves as a leadership resource for the company.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Organization: Conceive, plan, organize, schedule, coordinate and supervise areas of quality and reliability activities focused on new product development.
  • Leadership: Requires demonstrated global technical leadership ability in Quality and Reliability working with engineers, department leaders, business unit stakeholders, global factory representatives and suppliers.  New Product Development methodology leadership as it relates to RE/QE milestones (VOC translation, testing and flow down to factory controls) with a proven track record of delivering NPD projects on-time and meeting quality targets.
  • Training: Educate and train others on quality and reliability principles and New Product Development.
  • Administration & Staff Development: Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of direct reports, including pay administration, setting goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed. Provide performance feedback to cross functional team members for performance reviews with deliberately constructed staff development plans.
  • Quality Management System: Participate with the Ryobi quality management systems in the manufacturing facilities and corporate offices. Plan, conduct and coordinate internal audits and process audits to ensure compliance to established procedures, instructions and industry practice and to measure the effectiveness of improvement efforts.
  • Focused Quality Management Review Meetings: Host regularly scheduled reviews related to the categories of field, warranty, and factory performance. 
  • Continuous Improvement: Consult with global manufacturing and service plant managers and department heads on how and where to focus improvement efforts and aid in obtaining the resources and/or training required.  Educate and train others on quality and reliability principles and New Product Development.
  • Documentation: Assist with the development and revision of Quality Policies, Quality Procedures, Quality System Instructions, Engineering Standards and Test Work Instructions.
  • Corrective Actions: Lead, assist focused global corrective actions in areas where deficiencies have been identified. Includes internal and external corrective actions for manufacturing and the supplier base.
  • Nonconforming Product: Partnering with the factories and distribution centers to lead any containment and coordination efforts which will adequately develop systems intended to control and coordinate the application of product quality holds to adequately protect the customer from receiving sub-standard product while ensuring customers receive products in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with company-specific regulations related to the quality of products.  
  • Strategic Planning: Propose needed resources and departmental objectives and activities towards achieving the results documented in the Company’s vision, mission goals and objectives.  Participate in the planning and assessment for growth of quality functions at global the manufacturing and service locations.
  • Budgeting and Capital Expenditures: Prepare expense budgets for the department and control departmental expenditures to meet budget goals.  Analyze the quality-focused capital equipment needs of the category. This includes inspection, measuring and test equipment required for new products and processes as well as the upgrading of Milwaukee Electric Tool’s measurement capability. Perform detailed cost analysis and manage projects aimed at reducing costs of failure and increasing margins and productivity.

Education And Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent educational field
  • 12+ years experience directly related to Quality/Reliability in manufacturing and corporate settings, including familiarity or background in complex systems related to both manufacturing and testing, high tolerance products, and metrology
  • Must be knowledgeable of new product commercialization processes emphasizing design, manufacturing, quality, test or reliability activities
  • Must have experience leading and driving-down warranty or field return complaints
  • Must be very knowledgeable of developments in the field of quality/reliability and the application of modern techniques with a sound practical knowledge of product development processes, including repairable systems and service strategies. 
  • Must be able to work from broad general guidelines and objectives with minimal supervision and direction.

Skills And Knowledge

  • Computer proficiency required.  Excellent organizational skills and mechanical/electrical oriented preferred.
  • Familiarity or background in statistical software programs such as MiniTab, JMP, Reliasoft, or other specialized quality/reliability software will be benefical.
  • Travel – Willing and able to travel up to 30% of the time to the global sites including internationally (typically Asia).
