General Description:
The Editor II supports the College & Career Advising (CCA) Division of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) by providing editorial oversight across all division products and initiatives, including ApplyTexas, My Texas Future, ADVi, Texas OnCourse, Direct Admissions, and associated help desk and communication platforms. This position evaluates, edits, and proofreads content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to established editorial standards and style guides. Work includes collaborating with internal teams, higher education and K–12 partners, and external vendors to prepare materials for publication across digital and print platforms.
Work also involves proofreading materials according to the Chicago Manual of Style and supporting numerous concurrent projects with key external stakeholders. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Instructional Design and works under limited supervision with latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
General Duties And Responsibilities:
Editorial Quality & Standards
- Review, edit, and proofread digital and print content to ensure compliance with agency style guides, accessibility standards, and the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Detect and correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage; verify facts and consistency in terminology.
- Apply established editorial standards and style guides across CCA products, contributing to consistent tone, readability, and branding.
- Assist with preparation of reports, communications, and public-facing documents for accuracy and clarity.
Content Development & Design Support
- Collaborate with authors, instructional designers, program managers, and vendors to prepare materials for publication across platforms.
- Ensure content is clear, accurate, and aligned with project objectives.
- Support layout, visual design, and graphics selection in coordination with design staff; use Adobe Creative Cloud tools when applicable.
- Edit and proofread Spanish-language materials when assigned, ensuring accuracy and readability.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Support
- Work with cross-functional teams (Instructional Design, ADVi, Professional Learning & Engagement, Communications, Product, Help Desk) to support editorial workflows and improve efficiency.
- Provide feedback on writing clarity, format, and adherence to style expectations.
- Participate in team meetings and collaborative reviews to gather input and refine content.
- Support colleagues by sharing editorial best practices and contributing to training resources when requested.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support the goals of the College and Career Advising Division and agency priorities.
- This position is authorized for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees are required to work in the office three (3) days per week, with the remaining two days eligible for teleworking. Specific in-office days may be determined by the department to meet business needs.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard English grammar and usage, including grammar, diction, style, and organization
- Knowledge of writing style
- Knowledge of established reference manuals and guidelines
- Skilled in editing content to improve readability for K-12 and adult audiences
- Skilled in applying rules of standard English usage and in correcting grammatical and writing errors
- Ability to write concisely and effectively
- Ability to explain and defend grammatical changes
- Ability to advise about the organization of documents written by various authors
- Ability to clarify meaning while maintaining the integrity of ideas
Telework with Three Required In-Office Days:

Qualifications
Required Minimum Education And Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three years professional experience working in editorial settings with proven ability to proofread accurately while adhering to product specifications and style guides.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in English, journalism, writing or other relevant field.
- Visual design skills and experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Experience editing and proofreading documents written in Spanish.
