The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
THIS IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT REPRESENTED POSITION
Responsibilities:
Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Perform quality work in the installation, test, maintenance, and repair of electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures.
- Perform point to point wiring and metal frame fabrication for electrical control panels.
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, sketches, and work instructions to carry out assignments.
- Follow written and verbal instructions in compliance with work authorization documents and adapt to new processes.
- Must have basic knowledge of standard wiring procedures, which include proper wire routing, stripping, crimping of lugs, torque terminal blocks per specification and proper wire termination.
- Familiarity with UL 0508A is highly desired.
- Using multimeter and other test equipment to perform evaluations of electrical assemblies for continuity, current, functionality and voltage.
- Diagnose, test, and analyze the performance of components, assemblies, or systems.
- Troubleshoot panels as needed to eliminate wiring errors and component malfunctions.
- Communicate red line changes to engineering or team leader for revision prior to completion.
- Work directly with engineering personnel and technicians on the installation and operation of components, special systems, and equipment.
- Work at elevated locations using systems/equipment such as ladders, man-lifts, scaffolding and other work platforms.
- Operate appropriate shop mechanical equipment, systems, and tools in the performance of work duties.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems through a data and controls computer interface as applicable.
- Execute all work duties in a skilled, safe, and technically acceptable manner.
- Wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing during performance of work duties, to include but not limited to safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, shoes, gloves, masks, respirators, coveralls, harnesses.
- Identify and correct potential hazards and/or unsafe acts/conditions at the work site.
- Notify Management/Functional Leaders of any hazards in the workplace and advise on potential corrective actions.
- Maintain work area in a neat, clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Perform work in other classifications when incidental, but necessary to accomplish work assignment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent and technical training in the applicable area and three years’ related experience.
- If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to assist with the work of others.
- Familiar with basic mechanical equipment and systems.
- Familiar with concepts, practices, and procedures within assigned work area.
- Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, lifts, and precision measuring and testing equipment is required.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in resolving equipment issues.
- Must be able to communicate ideas accurately and effectively in writing and verbal communication.
- Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, staff, and managers.
- Ability to hold the necessary security clearance(s).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications on a standard PC.
- Ability to distinguish between colors.
- Ability to comply with safety policies and compliances.
- Must use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
- Must be able to climb ladders, towers, and stairs.
- Will require physical exertion in climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, carrying, or critical work in cramped quarters
- Duties may include the handling and transportation of hazardous waste (if qualified/certified).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the necessary medical/physical requirements.
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
- Work will mainly be performed in an indoor environment, but fieldwork may be a combination of indoor and outdoor, depending on the project.
- Working at heights is required.
- Working in confined spaces may be required.
- Work among equipment and stations in support of launches or stand-by.
- Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand may require accessing various locations on the facility
- Computers and printers are used for producing reports and schedules.
- Variety of equipment used in testing.
- Work is normally 8-Hour shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Frequent overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule.
