JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the HVAC Supervisor, the HVAC Lead assists in the supervision of HVAC personnel ensuring quality and quantity of work produced. Grows knowledge base and provides technical leadership for field technicians. Ensures coordination and completion of preventive and corrective maintenance, controls integration and troubleshooting across approximately 50% of K-12 educational and support facilities across the district. Supports system replacement efforts as needed by district leadership. This position directly supervises a staff of approximately 8 employees and ensures compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and district policies.

1.

Supervise and provide field support for HVAC staff in the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and operation of all mechanical systems including chillers, boilers, RTUs, air handlers, pumps, VAV systems, and refrigeration units. Daily 25%

2.

Assists in the supervision of all HVAC personnel, ensuring quality and quantity of work produced, to include hiring, coaching, evaluations, discipline and termination. Daily 10%

3.

Works on a one-on-one basis to train new HVAC technicians and ensure safe practices. Daily 10%

4.

Coordinate parts procurement to ensure timely availability of equipment and materials. Daily 10%

5.

Plan, assign, and coordinate daily work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and system performance testing. Coordination of outside contractor service work as required. Daily 10%

6.

Maintain accurate records of service calls, repairs, equipment, and maintenance schedules. Daily 5%

7.

Coordinates and assists in the installation and equipment interface of all Building Automation Systems. Monitors systems for proper operation of all BAS programs such as scheduling and equipment operations / failures. Daily 5%

8.

Responds to emergency situations during and outside normal working hours as needed. Daily 5%

9.

Collaborate with engineering and construction teams during major capital and retrofit projects to ensure mechanical system design aligns with district standards. This includes reviewing drawings and submittals, coordinating integration with controls, electrical, and other systems, and conducting job site walks to ensure proper and compliant installations. Daily 5%

10.

Assists with the coordination of HVAC water treatment testing. Maintains water treatment program adjusting as needed. Maintains chemical inventory at all properties.  Daily 5%

11.

Collaborate with administrators and staff to minimize disruptions to school activities during HVAC work. Daily 5%

12.

Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Daily 5%

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This job has supervisor responsibilities including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, directing work, assigning work, supervising work, training, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating. Direct reports:

  • HVAC Technician 
  • HVAC Preventative Maintenance Technician

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial or institutional HVAC systems
  • Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self Insurance Pool
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, including BAS/controls, hydronic systems, air balancing, and energy management practices
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes 
  • Proficient in CMMS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Colorado driver’s license

  • Experience working in the public sector, specifically public education
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
  • APPA training or certification
  • At least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
