Description

 

UI Health Care's Marketing and Communications department seeks a Community Engagement and Events Coordinator to join its Outreach and Engagement team.  The position is an integral member of the University of Iowa Health Care Marketing and Communications Outreach and Engagement team who is passionate about our community and state.  The role supports institutional goals and strategies through the implementation and evaluation of community engagement initiatives, including sponsorships, community and statewide connections, health literacy, and health educational programs.  Its goal is to strengthen UI Health Care’s presence across Iowa, promote health literacy, and foster trust with community partners.  

Position Responsibilities:

Message Development and Implementation 

  • Support communications, recommendations, and execution of community sponsorship initiatives.  
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of in person and virtual institution-wide, departmental, and community outreach and education events. 
  • Support creation of presentations, infographics, annual reports, targeted emails, and other materials for internal and external audiences. 
  • Monitor community engagement email inboxes and phone lines, ensuring timely and professional responses.   
  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of complex community education programs such as health seminars, webinars, Kids Go STEM, and Mini Medical School. Staff events as needed.  
  • Update enterprise intranet to promote outreach opportunities to internal audiences, and share messaging out through targeted channels with external partners. 
  • Lead virtual, on-campus, and off-campus health education programs, tours, and presentations for community members.  

Public Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal constituent groups including UI Health Care leadership, faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and campus colleagues to encourage engagement and achieve program goals.   
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with external constituent groups including businesses and community organizations and groups.  
  • Collaborate across Marketing and Communications and UI Health Care departments to maximize opportunities and achieve goals.  
  • Build trust and rapport with internal and external partners by communicating progress, timelines, and outcomes effectively.   

Information Management

  • Maintain inventory and check-out process for branded collateral and giveaway materials for use at institutional events.  
  • Create surveys, enter data, and generate reports using various analytic tools including Net Promoter Score, Qualtrics, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access for program evaluation and sharing impact. 
  • Assist in preparing project summaries, year-end reports, and presentations to demonstrate impact and success with key stakeholders. 
  • Support collection and maintenance of UI Health Care statewide impact data to share with elected officials and key stakeholders supporting reputation and relationships. 
  • Maintain internal CRM system to track engagement and share upcoming opportunities and resources with constituents. 
  • Assist with community benefit data collection and reviewing, and provide reporter training for accurate reporting.  

Strategic Planning

  • Contribute to strategic planning for community relations and regional initiatives aligned with institutional goals.  
  • Support development, implementation, and tracking of community, sponsorship, and event management strategies.  

Financial Responsibility

  • Present sponsorship recommendations to leadership. 
  • Offer input on budget planning for community relations and sponsorship initiatives; monitor and reconcile expenses.  
  • Recommend and purchase branded materials and giveaways in alignment with brand standards, strategic priorities, and budget.   
  • Prepare budget summary reports for community relations and sponsorship initiatives.  

Supervision/Leadership

  • May provide assignments, guidance, and supervision to student workers. 
 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience in public relations, communications, or marketing, preferably in an educational or health care setting. 
  • Experience planning and implementing large-scale events. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Experience coordinating community outreach initiatives and sponsorship activities. 
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities, track progress, and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and individuals from all backgrounds and lived experiences. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends, when needed. 
  • Ability to travel in surrounding geographic area; must hold a valid driver's license and meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standards. 
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and applying data to inform decision-making.  
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Access, Qualtrics, Constant Contact, and Jira project management software.  
  • Knowledge of UI and UI Health Care policies and procedures.
