What you will be doing as a Metal Processor: 

In this role, you can expect to play a vital part in ensuring the cleanliness and integrity of aircraft parts through precise abrasive blasting and shot peening operations, which enhance fatigue resistance and durability. You’ll work with a variety of tools and equipment, following detailed specifications to deliver high-quality results.  

Your responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): 

  • Technical Operations: Carry out specific tasks by following detailed instructions and guidelines to ensure high-quality work and consistency in processes 
  • Abrasive Blasting:  Perform abrasive blasting techniques by propelling materials like sand at high speeds to clean and smooth the surfaces of parts, preparing them for further treatments such as painting 
  • Shot Peening: Enhance durability and fatigue resistance while extending the lifespan of parts through shot peening, a process that bombards surfaces with spherical media known as “shot” 
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct visual inspections of parts and assemblies to ensure cleanliness and compliance with quality standards 
  • Measurement and Testing: Use holding fixtures and measuring instruments, such as scales and almen testers, to verify specifications are met 
  • Depth Penetration Checks: Regularly assess parts for depth of steel shot penetration to maintain operational integrity. 

What you need to be successful: 

  • A high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification is required 
  • A minimum 6 months of blast or shot peening experience 
  • Ability to work in conditions that may be hot, dusty, and noisy
