About The Role

Description of the team and key points

  • Advanced Technical Knowledge: Possessing in-depth knowledge of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, steering, and suspension. Understanding the latest technologies and diagnostic equipment used in vehicle repairs.
  • Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Demonstrating exceptional diagnostic skills to identify complex issues or malfunctions in vehicles. Utilising specialised tools and equipment to accurately diagnose problems and develop effective repair solutions.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Performing advanced repairs and maintenance tasks on vehicles, including complex engine repairs, transmission overhauls, electrical system troubleshooting, and specialised component replacements. Ensuring repairs are completed to industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Technical Leadership and Mentoring: Providing guidance and technical support to other technicians within the workshop. Assisting in problem-solving, sharing knowledge, and facilitating skill development to enhance the overall team's capabilities.
  • Vehicle Inspections and Pre-Purchase Evaluations: Conducting thorough inspections and assessments of vehicles to identify potential issues or concerns. Providing detailed reports and recommendations to customers or dealership staff.Training and Professional Development: Staying updated with the latest advancements in automotive technology and repair techniques. Attending training sessions, workshops, and obtaining additional certifications to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicating effectively with customers to explain complex repairs or technical issues in a clear and understandable manner. Addressing customer inquiries, providing accurate estimates, and building trust through exceptional customer service.
  • Compliance and Safety: Adhering to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Following proper procedures for handling hazardous materials, using protective equipment, and maintaining compliance with industry standards.
  • Quality Control: Conducting quality control checks on completed repairs to ensure work meets or exceeds established standards. Performing post-repair tests and inspections to verify the effectiveness of repairs and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Efficiency and Time Management: Demonstrating efficiency in completing repair tasks within specified timeframes. Prioritising work orders, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and optimising workflow to maximise productivity, complete scheduled vehicle servicing and repair in line with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Undertake diagnostic activities to identify causes and solutions for customer vehicle issues.
  • Ensure vehicle servicing activities are completed in a safe and high-quality manner, in line with manufacturer requirements.
  • Liaise directly with customers and service advisors, providing outstanding customer service.
  • Conduct electronic visual health checks on all vehicles and provide a comprehensive report with expert advice and recommendations for customers.
  • Completing the necessary documentation in respect to warranty work.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work bay.

Experience To Succeed

⚡ GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
⚡ Automotive City & Guilds / Level 3 NVQ in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent recognised qualification).
⚡ Manufacturer Master Technician accreditation (or working towards, if brand-specific).
⚡ Advanced diagnostic training, including electrical and electronic systems.
⚡ Strong knowledge of DVSA safety and MOT requirements.
⚡ Up-to-date training on hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) systems.
⚡ Proficiency with manufacturer diagnostic tools, software, and technical bulletins.

⚡ Significant experience as a qualified Vehicle Technician in a franchised dealership.
⚡ Proven track record of diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical and electrical faults.
⚡ Experience in carrying out warranty repairs to manufacturer standards.
⚡ Workshop experience with a focus on quality, efficiency, and first-time fix rates.
⚡ Supporting and mentoring junior or apprentice technicians.
