We are seeking a highly skilled Genotyping Analysis Lead to join our innovative research team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operational efficiency of the genotyping laboratory. In this role, you will ensure efficient resource use, high productivity, and equipment reliability while tracking workforce performance, financial investments, and returns. You will monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as uptime, downtime, and overall lab productivity to drive continuous improvement and meet organizational goals.

Accountabilities:

  • Monitor and analyze operational efficiency of genotyping equipment, including sequencers, PCR machines, and other lab technologies.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for equipment performance (e.g., throughput, error rates, maintenance schedules).
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment failures and ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors and technical teams to troubleshoot issues and ensure timely repairs.
  • Evaluate workforce productivity, including individual and team performance metrics (e.g., sample processing rates, accuracy, turnaround time).
  • Identify training needs and coordinate professional development to enhance staff skills and efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement by setting clear performance expectations and providing regular feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with lab protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor capital expenditures for lab equipment, reagents, and other resources.
  • Analyze return on investment (ROI) for new equipment purchases, software upgrades, or process improvements.
  • Prepare financial reports and forecasts to justify investments and demonstrate cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with leadership to align lab investments with organizational goals.
  • Measure lab output metrics, such as the number of samples processed, turnaround times, and success rates of genotyping assays.
  • Identify bottlenecks in workflows and implement process improvements to enhance productivity.
  • Use data-driven insights to optimize resource allocation and streamline operations.
  • Benchmark lab productivity against industry standards or peer institutions.
  • Monitor and document equipment downtime due to maintenance, repairs, or calibration.
  • Calculate uptime percentages to ensure maximum operational availability of critical lab equipment.
  • Analyze causes of downtime and implement strategies to reduce unplanned interruptions.
  • Maintain detailed logs of downtime events, documenting their impact on lab operations to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or higher is preferred, with a focus on laboratory management or operations.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a genotyping or molecular biology laboratory setting.
  • Proven experience in performance management, process optimization, or operational oversight.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and data analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in tracking and analyzing KPIs using software tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, or specialized lab management software).
  • Knowledge of genotyping technologies (e.g., PCR, next-generation sequencing, microarrays).
  • Understanding of equipment maintenance protocols and troubleshooting processes.
  • Leadership and team management abilities to motivate and guide lab staff.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, ISO) and safety regulations.

Additional Information

Salary for the role is 101,600-127,000 per year.
