Education And/Or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Business, Communications or related field and four years of work experience in an office environment with technical or administrative support capacity to include writing correspondence, records gathering, or maintaining data filing system is required. Preference will be given for experience in a transit operations environment. Must possess good verbal and written communications skills with the ability to speak clearly and distinctly. Experience communicating with the general public using social media tools, on a routine basis is desired. Bilingual language skills preferred (English and Spanish) in order to meet bilingual staffing needs. Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task Should be able to exercise independent judgment within established guidelines and communicate effectively in emergency or stressful situations. Must be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, online publishing tools and social media tools with ability to comprehend and use new software related to changing duties and responsibilities. Directly related work experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis in-lieu of educational requirement.
INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.
Summary
Works closely with Rail Services Controller, Bus Communication Dispatchers, and Station Services Supervisors in the day-to-day operation of the Operations Center, collecting, interpreting and reporting emergencies and service related issues to the appropriate personnel such as keeping track of station problems and equipment malfunction. Serves as liaison for the Integrated Operations Center and other MARTA Departments during emergency situations. Monitors and interprets displayed data and radio communications to determine revenue operations status, including train movement, power and equipment status and station activities. Coordinates all tasks associated with establishing bus bridges in the event of an emergency, disabled train, or service disruption. Under limited or no supervision, identifies and initiates notification process. Maintains and updates Notification List in the IOC (Integrated Operations Center) and generates new Notification List report(s) to management on a routine basis. Using computer systems, formulates pertinent information for display on various electronic signs (SignPost, AVIS, VPAS/ATDAS, Train Talk, Automatic Calling, and others). Maintains performance data on the Rail Control Communications processes and prepares spreadsheets of measures for management review. Prepares and makes timely up-to-date public-address announcements concerning train operations, delays, incidents, train locations, stations operations and communications related to special events and service issues.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Interprets IOC (Integrated Operations Center) and Rail Operations activity in an effort to communicate to internal and external customers. Works closely with Rail Services Controller in the day-to-day operation of the Control Center, reporting emergencies to the appropriate personnel such as keeping track of station problems, equipment malfunction, and reporting emergencies to the appropriate personnel.
- Takes appropriate action on communication received from federal, state and local agencies, operators, inspectors, station agents and other personnel regarding emergencies, incidents, and malfunctions; dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment to correct possible service disruption or safety problems.
- Monitors and interprets the Train Control Display Board and radio communication to determine revenue operations status, including train movement, power and equipment status and station activities. Prepares and makes timely up-to-date public-address announcements concerning train operations, delays, incidents, train locations, stations operations and communications related to special events and service issues.
- Coordinates all tasks associated with establishing bus bridges in the event of an emergency, disabled train, or service disruption.
- Identifies all service interruptions independently and initiates notification list in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Prepares weekly and monthly spreadsheet reports of measures indicating the performance of the communications process.
- Utilizes social media tools and online publishing such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other online tools to communicate bus and train operations, events and service issues.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- The position require annual recertification as a Communications Coordinator.
Special Requirements
Nature of the work requires working in a confined and highly stressful environment, sitting for extended periods of time, constantly viewing display monitors, and working rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. May wear authority approved headsets to perform duties.
