Purpose

We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager Network & IP to lead the Network Design function and help modernise how we deliver secure, reliable, and scalable network services. You’ll manage a team of engineers, set and uphold design governance and best practice, and work closely with Agile squads and partners to enable high-availability services across our IP and (peer) Microwave environments. This role suits an inclusive people leader with strong IP networking depth (BGP, Multicast, OSPF) who can drive standards, allocate resources effectively, and support a major transformation of ways of working.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and develop the Network Design team, setting clear standards, mentoring engineers, and promoting inclusive, high-performance culture.
  • Own design governance for IP networking; champion secure-by-design, quality assurance, and testing standards.
  • Plan and allocate resources across design and delivery, ensuring the right skills are assigned to the right work and milestones are met.
  • Partner with Agile squads to enable iterative delivery while meeting security, policy, and compliance requirements.
  • Track and report team KPIs (e.g., design quality, timeliness, problem management effectiveness) and drive continuous improvement.
  • Act as first point of escalation for technical/delivery issues; support root-cause analysis and embed lessons learned.
  • Coordinate with project managers, cross-functional stakeholders, and suppliers to manage dependencies and delivery risks.
  • Input into network strategy, standards, and governance frameworks; support disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Contribute to tooling and workflow improvements that enhance agility, security, and operational governance.
  • Represent the team in forums and reviews, providing clear visibility of progress, risks, and opportunities.

Skills

  • Deep IP networking expertise: BGP (must-have), Multicast (must-have), OSPF (strong plus).
  • Familiarity with Microwave networking (nice-to-have; delivered by a peer team).
  • Understanding of public cloud networking concepts and automation/NetOps practices.
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow for workflow/ITSM.
  • Strong stakeholder skills: resource planning, prioritisation, and clear communication.
  • Inclusive leadership that builds trust, empowers engineers, and raises standards.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience in a technical management role leading multi-discipline network teams
  • Background in high-availability, compliance-focused environments (service provider/MSP, finance trading, broadcast, telco, or similar).
  • Demonstrable success setting engineering standards, governing designs, and improving ways of working.
  • Exposure to Agile squad delivery and modern automation/NetOps approaches.
  • Awareness of ITIL-aligned processes and problem/change management is advantageous.
