Job Description
Medical Strategy and Excellence Digital & Data Analytics Lead for Gilead Sciences Japan, will serve as a key partner and data science expert to all the therapeutic areas in Medical Affairs, identify opportunities, implement digital solutions, and analyze data for strategic input. She/he will report to Medical Strategy & Excellence Director in Medical Affairs.

- Promote data-driven decision-making within the Medical Affairs department by integrating internal and external medical data sources.
- Provide strategic insights through advanced analytics, including statistical modeling and machine learning.
- Design and execute impact assessment and measurement of core Medical Affairs activities, including publications and scientific engagements
- Plan and implement innovative projects that leverage AI and GenAI solutions in collaboration with commercial operations, IT, and global data science teams.
- Build a foundation for a more data-driven MA strategy and tactics development, including MA omnichannel planning / execution / monitoring and patient voice integration
- Collect, integrate, and analyze medical and pharmaceutical data such as RWD, clinical trials, literature, and KOL information
- Provide and/or develop digital tools to analyze the data as necessary
- Extract actionable insights to support Medical Affairs strategies and reporting.
- Build dashboards using tools like Power BI and Tableau to visualize complex data for internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other functions such as Commercial Operations, global solution teams, D&A IT, and external IT vendors as needed.
- Lead data design and management initiatives, including data architecture and platform operations as necessary, especially in environments with limited IT support
Capabilities & Requirements
The successful candidate will have a strong expertise in data science and IT skills, as well as strategic perspectives to advance data utilization within Medical Affairs. This role will leverage knowledge in medical and pharmaceutical domains to integrate and analyze internal and external data, supporting strategic decision-making across the organization. Given the limited size of the IT team, the candidate might also be expected to proactively lead data architecture design and manage data infrastructure operations as needed.
She/he must have the proven ability to effectively manage complex and ambiguous projects, influence stakeholders without direct authority, effectively network across the organization, and communicate with stakeholders all within a very dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Technical Expertise
- Strong background in data science, analytics, and IT systems
- Experience in data integration, modeling, and visualization tools
- Knowledge of digital transformation (Dx) in Medical Affairs
- Experience in omnichannel technologies and operations within pharma
- Experience in Dx projects in business development (a plus)
Medical & Industry Knowledge
- Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical fields, with the ability to contextualize data within clinical and regulatory frameworks
- Professional experience (at least 5 years) in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry or related experience (preferably in positions related to Digital Health and Medical Affairs)
- Knowledge of markets related to disease areas Japan MA has been focusing on (Liver, Infectious diseases (HIV, COVID-19, etc.), Inflammation, Oncology) (a plus)
- Ability to embrace Gilead’s patient-centric values, including highest ethical and compliance standards
- Knowledge and appreciation of applicable regulatory and legal requirements

Education & Language
- Advanced academic, ideally scientific, degree (e.g., MBA, MSc, BSc, PhD or Pharmacist) or comparable work experience
- Fluency in Japanese and business-level English
