Join our Tenant Admin Directory team, where you will play a key role in simplifying and modernizing the global scale directory infrastructure — evolving core primitives, hardening reliability, and improving cost and performance—while maintaining world‑class availability.


As a Senior Software Engineer -- M365 Core, you will have the opportunity to drive technical innovation, influence architectural decisions, and solve complex challenges at cloud scale. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver features that improve performance, security, and user experience, while ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance. You’ll apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) thoughtfully—e.g., anomaly detection and developer productivity tooling—to accelerate simplification and modernization, remove toil, and improve user and developer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders and partners to determine user and system requirements for simplifying directory scenarios; translate scenarios into clear engineering plans.
  • Drive dependency mapping and author design documents for services, application programming interfaces (APIs), and data contracts that modernize directory architecture.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in a rotating on‑call; monitor service health, respond to incidents, and lead restoration for complex issues.
  • Leverage AI and automation to elevate availability, reliability, observability, and efficiency; proactively adopt new patterns and technologies.
  • Partner with product manager (PM) and cross‑discipline stakeholders to plan releases and manage work items that deliver measurable modernization outcomes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and database with a strong focus on system performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with identity and directory technologies such as Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory), or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with vibe coding in production environments.
  • Solid communication skills in English and Chinese.
