Brief Job Description: 

Switchgear Product Engineer:

Responsible for providing technical leadership and functional knowledge of the products to support development and sustaining activity for the Switchgear product line.  Responsibilities include knowledge of mechanical and electrical assemblies, defining, executing, and interpreting results from engineering tests.  The Product Engineer shall verify that the product meets the design requirements to meet product definitions and market expectations.  Additional responsibilities include defining opportunity for value engineering analysis to reduce the cost of the product, maintaining electrical switchgear systems while ensuring compliance with industry standards & safety regulations, support field engineer for special applications in field and supports the service for field issues.

Responsibilities and Measurement Criteria with Time investment Needed on Each:

  • Support the products during their life cycle, transfer the lesson learned collected in field to the engineering team, work in conjunction with the design teams to develop test cases to verify the products features.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineer to analyze the product cost.
  • Evaluate alternative components and solutions that eventually can be adopted during the life of the products.
  • Analyze specific applications providing active support and service.
  • Work with the Service team Coordinate the activities and provide the necessary documentation to start the Change order processes.
  • Cooperate with other engineering functions during the definition of the product specification.
  • Support the testing team for the definition of the test plan and review the test results.
  • Produce technical documentation in line with the process requirements such as drawings, component specification.
  • Design low and medium voltage switchgear systems and components 
  • Develop technical specifications and engineering drawings 
  • Perform electrical calculations and system analysis 
  • Create and review technical documentation 
  • Conduct power system studies including short circuit, coordination, and arc flash analysis 
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, testing, and quality 
  • Support customer technical inquiries and site commissioning activities 
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (IEC, ANSI, IEEE) 

Qualifications:

Required/ Minimum Qualifications:

  • University degree or technical diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of experience in switchgear design or related field 
  • Strong understanding of power distribution systems 
  • Knowledge of electrical protection systems and controls 
  • Experience with industry standards and regulations 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent planning and communication skills are required.
  • Good knowledge on electrical power components.
  • Good knowledge of the PLM (Product Life Cycle management) and processes.
  • Good team working attitude and communication.
  • Customer oriented and availability to travel.
  • Experience in equivalent areas (e.g., UPS, Power converter or low voltage electrical distribution) is a plus.
  • Experience with PLC programming and control systems 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Project management experience 

Technical Knowledge:

  • The person will need to take part of R&D environment.
  • Circuit breakers and switching devices 
  • Protection relay systems 
  • Control and monitoring systems 
  • Power system analysis 
  • Electrical safety standards 
  • Testing and commissioning procedures  

Time Travel Needed:

  • 10-20%
