Job Purpose: Lead - Aviation Safety (Regional) plays a crucial role in implementing and managing safety protocols, standards, and best practices in airside operations at the airport. This position focuses on developing and enforcing strategies to mitigate risks, enhance safety compliance, and uphold regulatory requirements to support smooth, secure airport activities.
Development and Execution of Regional Safety Programs:
Create, monitor, and update safety programs tailored to the specific needs of regional airside operations.
Ensure that training materials and programs are customized to address the unique operational challenges of regional airports.
Regional Risk Assessment and Hazard Mitigation:
Conduct regular risk assessments at regional airports, focusing on location-specific hazards such as ground handling, passenger movement, and local environmental factors.
Develop and communicate mitigation strategies for risks identified at individual regional airports, ensuring localized solutions.
Collaborate with regional operational teams to address hazards, ensuring that all airports under the region operate safely and efficiently.
Regulatory Compliance And Documentation:
Ensure safety procedures comply with DGCA, ICAO, and regional-specific aviation safety requirements.
Establish frameworks for safety audits and inspections across regional airport ensuring standardized compliance practices.
Maintain comprehensive regional documentation, including safety records, audit findings, and incident reports, to support compliance and regulatory reviews.
- Stay updated on evolving safety regulations and communicate changes effectively to all airport teams.
- Regional Emergency Preparedness and Incident Management:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans tailored to the unique requirements of the regional airport.
- Conduct periodic emergency drills at the airport, ensuring readiness and efficient coordination in crises.
- Investigate and analyze incidents providing actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence.
Facilitate the sharing of lessons learned and best practices across the regional airport to improve emergency preparedness.
Safety Audits And Inspections:
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to address and resolve identified safety issues promptly.
- Aim to improve audit compliance scores through proactive issue resolution and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Continuous Safety Improvement for Regional Operations:
Design and implement improvement initiatives specific to regional operations, addressing common gaps and enhancing safety performance.
Collaborate with airport teams to integrate safety improvements into operational workflows and ensure alignment with overall regional strategies.
Safety Training and Regional Culture Development:
Develop and oversee safety training programs tailored to the needs of regional airport staff, focusing on local challenges and compliance requirements.
- Promote a safety-first mindset through engagement with regional teams, conducting workshops and awareness sessions.
- Encourage feedback from regional teams to continuously improve training programs and ensure practical applicability.
- Implementation of Regional Safety Management Plan:
Implement and continuously refine the Safety Management Plan (SMP) for the regional airport, ensuring alignment with local operational needs.
Monitor and review the effectiveness of safety measures at the regional airport, adapting plans to address emerging risks.
Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards (OSHAS) and Safety Management Systems (SMS) across the region.
- Environmental and Health Compliance for Regional Operations:
- Develop an Environmental Management Plan addressing compliance requirements for the regional airport.
- Ensure regional adherence to ISO-14001 standards and statutory environmental regulations.
Facilitate the approval processes for Consent for Establishment (CFE) and Consent for Operation (CFO) for the airport.
- Monitor health compliance activities and resolve non-conformities (NCs) effectively across the airport.
- Maintain accurate health records and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Change Management and Regional SHE Programs:
- Drive change management programs related to safety, health, and environmental initiatives.
Drive change management initiatives related to Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) programs, ensuring smooth regional implementation.
Promote SHE awareness through training sessions and campaigns tailored to the unique challenges of regional airport operations.
Management Of Regional Safety Equipment:
Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and testing of safety equipment and PPE across the regional airports ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Coordinate with airport teams to ensure safety equipment is readily available and functional.
Conduct periodic reviews of equipment performance and address any gaps in availability or functionality.

Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Aviation Safety, Aerospace Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field is essential.
Preferred Postgraduate degree in Aviation Safety or Safety Management.
Certification Requirements: Airport Safety and Operations Specialist (ASOS), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) , Project Management Professional (PMP), Aerodrome Safety Management System (SMS) Training by DGCA.
Work Experience:
9-12 years of experience in airport safety, with experience in managing safety at a mid-size airport. Knowledge of ICAO, IATA, and Civil Aviation regulations, SMS, OSHAS, and ISO compliance.
