The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities; b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom an internship is required to complete their studies; or c) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor. d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months. e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.

Under the overall supervision of the Regional Human Resources Business Partner (RHRBP) for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) based in Cairo, Egypt, and direct supervision of the Senior Regional Human Resources Assistant for the MENA, the intern selected through advertised Call for Applications will be responsible and accountable for providing support to the Regional HR Unit with related functions to support the Regional Office (RO MENA) as well as Country Offices (COs) in the MENA region.
Learning Objectives- Demonstrate effective outreach skills by publicizing vacancy announcements across internal and external professional networks.
- Coordinate recruitment processes by scheduling interviews and assisting in the administration of both online and in-person written tests.
- Facilitate onboarding logistics by liaising with ICT for timely email account creation and ensuring the availability of necessary assets for new hires.
- Participate in HR meetings and prepared meeting minutes, ensuring all action points, focal points and deadlines are captured, and follow up notifications are set.
- Develop internal communication materials by compiling HR-related content for presentations and the monthly RMU newsletter.
- Support data-driven HR decisions by preparing reports aligned with monthly reporting requirements.
- Deliver logistical support for HR initiatives such as townhalls and training sessions, ensuring smooth execution and proper documentation.
- Contribute to effective onboarding by coordinating induction sessions and collaborating with relevant units to ensure a comprehensive process for new staff.
- Monitor staff training compliance by tracking completion of mandatory courses and generating regular progress reports.
- Support staff development activities by assisting with the planning, documentation, and archiving of HR-related events and trainings.
- Ensure digital compliance of HR documentation by reviewing and organizing shared folders in line with HQ requirements.
- Prepare professional communications by drafting and disseminating announcements for new joiners using standardized templates.
- Assist with attendance management by extracting and reviewing monthly attendance reports from the ICT dashboard, and flagging anomalies as needed.
- Adapt to a dynamic HR environment by supporting various administrative and coordination tasks as assigned.
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in Business Administration, Finance, Management, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited academic institution (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme in any of the above (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
- Have graduated with a university degree (as mentioned above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
- Previous experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience in administrative tasks, document management, absence management etc.
- Exposure to event planning, training coordination, or employee engagement activities.
- Experience working in a multicultural or international environment is an advantage.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Ability to draft professional emails, reports, and presentations.
- Active listening and analyzing data .
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to collaborate with different teams and departments.
- Strong people skills to engage with staff and stakeholders.

Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
- IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
