Duties And Responsibilities
To conduct research on the numerical modeling of giant-planet magnetospheres, with a primary emphasis on Jupiter’s magnetosphere–ionosphere system. The successful candidate will lead and analyze global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of solar wind–magnetosphere–ionosphere coupling, perform data–model comparisons, and collaborate closely with Prof. Binzheng Zhang and other DEPS researchers.
Requirements
- a Ph.D. degree in space physics, magnetospheric physics, or a closely related field
- demonstrated expertise in global MHD simulations of planetary magnetospheres; candidates with direct experience modeling Jupiter’s magnetosphere–ionosphere system are strongly preferred
- experience working with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and large-scale numerical codes for space plasmas; proficiency with scientific programming (e.g., Fortran/C/C++/Python) and Linux is an advantage
- Experience with data–model comparisons (e.g., Juno, Galileo) is desirable
- possess a good command of written and spoken English
