Detroit Defense is seeking a Vehicle Integration Engineer to support advanced military ground vehicle programs. This Vehicle Integration Engineer role focuses on integrating electrical, mechanical, software, and autonomy subsystems into complete vehicle platforms. The ideal Vehicle Integration Engineer candidate will have hands-on experience bringing prototype systems from design through build and test, with a strong focus on enabling autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle capabilities. Success in this role requires working across disciplines to ensure vehicle performance, safety, and reliability.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Lead vehicle-level integration of electrical, mechanical, software, and autonomy subsystems on tactical and combat vehicles.
  • Provide team leadership, mentoring junior engineers and guiding cross-functional integration activities.
  • Operate effectively in a dynamic work environment spanning office, lab, shop, test ranges, and supplier sites.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customers, balancing engineering execution with schedule and cost objectives.
  • Document integration activities, test results, and system performance in reports and customer deliverables.
  • Demonstrate versatility by contributing across multiple engineering domains and adapting to evolving program needs.
  • Support vehicle build, test, and validation activities, including instrumentation, data acquisition, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain integration plans, harness routing, and system interconnect documentation.
  • Collaborate with design teams to resolve integration issues and ensure subsystem compatibility.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or related field) from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a United States Government Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC) if required.
  • A minimum of Ten years of experience in vehicle integration or systems engineering, preferably with military or specialty vehicles.
  • Experience with vehicle testing, troubleshooting, and problem resolution at the platform level.
  • Knowledge of harness design, routing, and electrical system integration.
  • Knowledge of essential Engineering Tools (NX, TeamCenter, Zuken, etc.).
  • Strong ability to work across engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Experience with robotic and autonomous vehicle platforms.
  • Experience with U.S. DoD ground vehicle programs (e.g., HMMWV, ISV, MPF, RCV, Abrams) and familiarity with military program environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards and processes across defense, automotive, and ASME domains, including safety, EMI/EMC, reliability, and system qualification practices.
