Role Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Primary Responsibilities: Under the direction of the IWP Engineering Manager, the role is responsible for delivering day-to-day systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle of Defence capability projects. Operating within a multidisciplinary team, the role ensures that engineering solutions meet operational requirements, safety standards and sustainment objectives in accordance with the Engineering Management System (EMS).

The key responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:

  • Undertake requirements engineering to ensure system needs are accurately captured, traceable, and validated.
  • Lead or contribute to preliminary and detailed design phases of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), ensuring alignment with operational needs.
  • Perform technical investigations to resolve engineering issues.
  • Draft Statements of Work for acquisition activities, ensuring technical completeness and contractual clarity.
  • Draft technical investigation reports, and engineering lifecycle documentation for ECPs.
  • Implement the system safety program, including hazard analysis, risk assessments, and safety case development.
  • Plan and execute Verification and Validation (V&V) activities as part of engineering change management, ensuring design integrity and compliance with requirements.
  • Develop or contribute to service requirements definition to support maintenance planning and sustainment strategies.
  • Identify supply items for codification and coordinate with logistics officer to complete codification and data enrichment in ERP.
  • Conduct Logistics Support Analysis and sparing analysis to optimise inventory and supportability.
  • Provide engineering support including SQEP reviews and technical advice.

Essential Requirements:

• Degree qualification (Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline).

• Australian Citizenship.

  • Hold or ability to obtain NV1 security clearance.
  • Experience in a Department of Defence, preferably in Maritime Domain.
  • Highly developed organisational and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Design, Technical Investigation and V&V.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships through high level communication skills.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Previous exposure to Australian Defence Force (ADF) Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and/or Marine Engineering Industry.
  • Experience with Configuration Management Tool – Unified (CMT-U), Asset Maintenance Planning System (AMPS), NAVALLOW and/or SAP S4/HANA, DOORS, and other Naval Logistics Information System (NLIS) tools.

Salary Range Depending on Experience: $175 to $185K

Required Security Clearance Level: NV1

Location: Defence Plaza Sydney

Weekly Hours: 40
