Position Description:
The Mental Health Systems Specialist (MHSS) serves as a vital member of Project LAUNCH (Linking Actions for Unmet Needs in Children’s Health), a grant promoting the wellness of young children, from birth to 8 years of age. The focus is on addressing the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and behavioral aspects of their development, preparing young children to thrive in school and beyond! The MHSS is a key player responsible for assisting with improving Erie County’s public awareness of early childhood wellbeing, navigating systems and supports available for children 0-8, and equipping and empowering parents, caregivers, and professionals with training and resources focused on prevention and mental health promotion. The MHSS will participate in several core teams addressing grant goals related to applied clinical and consultation service delivery, training, screening and assessment. The Specialist also supports a variety of activities around administrative and clinical alignment, program effectiveness, creation of resources/tools, outreach efforts in support of clinical partnerships, and quality initiatives in conjunction with the Chief Clinical Officer. This position reports to the Chief Clinical Officer and works closely with the Project LAUNCH director.
This position is grant-funded through September 2029. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding and/or positions within the service line.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as a member of the Targeted Supports Team supporting activities such as: developing and coordinating a consultation model; providing Technical Advisory Support in your area of specialization; working with daycares and schools to discover ways to increase parent inclusion in children’s learning and development; and deliver coaching, training and resources to educators and families
- Serves as a member of the Training & Resources Team supporting the creation of training plans and materials for physical health providers, parents, guardians, schools and daycare providers on the early detection of child and parent behavioral health needs, building resources, and referral pathways.
- Serves as a member of the Screening, Assessment, & Referral Team supporting the selection of and training on a variety of screening and assessment tools for use by behavioral health, physical health, educators or daycare professionals.
- Identification and promotion of existing evidence based on best practice trainings and resources in the catchment area, etc.
- Create processes for more standardized assessment of Social Determinants of Health for the child and family.
- Implement and enhance physical and behavioral health integration efforts
- Participate in the implementation and monitoring of competency-based practices
- Creation of clinical resources to support clinical service delivery

Requirements:
- Master’s degree or certification in a behavioral health discipline (social work, counseling, psychology or a related mental health field).
- Three (3) years of direct care experience working in a behavioral health related position. Five (5) years’ experience providing direct services or oversight of services for young children, adults, and/or families with a focus on use of evidence-based direct intervention methods and consultation is preferred.
- Master’s degree or certification in a behavioral health discipline (social work, counseling, psychology or a related mental health field).
- Three (3) years of direct care experience working in a behavioral health related position. Five (5) years’ experience providing direct services or oversight of services for young children, adults, and/or families with a focus on use of evidence-based direct intervention methods and consultation is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy and experience providing mental health evaluations, DSM-5 / ICD-10 diagnoses, and appropriate recommendations.
