We are searching for a Principal Electrical Engineer, Mixed-Signal based in Phoenix, AZ to join our team. This position will be responsible for the design of audio equipment from initial circuit and mechanical concepts through release to manufacturing. Works with others inside and outside R&D to resolve any issues, technical or non-technical, that arise. Provides technical support to manufacturing. Works with little supervision. Provides leadership and guidance to less experienced engineers and helps to review the quality of their work. May supervise less experienced engineers or other personnel and may take a lead role on complex projects that require multiple engineers. Plays an active role as a senior staff member, helping to develop and implement department procedures and design standards. Develops new ideas for low-cost design principles and practices.
Essential Functions:
- With very minimal supervision, design, analyze, construct and evaluate electronic audio products, ensuring that all design standards and product requirements are maintained.
- Take the lead role in the design of electrical system for audio products, making sure that all electronic and mechanical components and assemblies interface correctly.
- Communicate with product and manufacturing team members regarding design decisions and trade-offs. Obtain appropriate input to ensure the quality of the product design.
- With very minimal supervision, devise solutions to technical problems that arise in products in production. Create engineering change notices as necessary.
- Use CAD tools such as PCB layout software, schematic capture software, circuit simulation software, etc., to expedite and improve product designs.
- With minimal supervision, plan and schedule the activities necessary to complete complex long-term projects.
- As a senior staff member, help create and implement R&D procedures and design processes. Provide leadership and guidance to less experienced engineers. Review the work of less experienced engineers for accuracy and quality.
- Supervise, if so assigned, less experienced engineers or other staff members.
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- At a minimum, a BSEE/BSET or equivalent is required.
- Extensive experience in related electronics design. Typically 10-20 years is required, but this can vary widely, depending on ability and how relevant the experience is.
- A strong desire for continuous process and product quality improvement
- Strong task management skills
- Advanced technical skills sufficient to independently design audio products and solve difficult technical problems
- Proficiency with standard electronics test equipment
- Ability to construct electronic circuits using basic tools
- Good technical and non-technical communications skills
- Project planning and management skills, Leadership and supervisory skills
- Musical background is a plus
