Job Description
Join our world-class academic healthcare system as a Pharmacy Purchasing Supervisor.
The Pharmacy Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily procurement and inventory operations of pharmaceutical products within a hospital setting. This role ensures the continuous availability of medications across inpatient and outpatient units, offsite infusions centers and clinics and leads the purchasing team to maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. The supervisor collaborates with pharmacists, clinical teams, and supply chain staff to optimize inventory accuracy, reduce waste, and support patient care.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise day-to-day pharmacy purchasing functions, including ordering, receiving, and stocking of medications and supplies for all hospitals, infusion centers and clinics.
- Supports the Asst. Director of Purchasing with managing drug shortages and identifying alternative products in collaboration with pharmacy leadership. Track and report on drug shortages, backorders, and alternative source strategies.
- Supervise and train purchasing staff
- Coordinates medication recalls, borrowing and loaning between other hospitals and the emergency procurement of medications and supplies
- Efficiently organize the work tasks and assume new functions where possible
- Ensure that all DSCSA processes are followed upon receiving of drugs into UCM.
- Performs daily purchasing function when coverage is needed due to vacations and call offs
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Five years experience in hospital pharmacy purchasing with 340b knowledge
- Knowledge of DSCSA guidelines
- Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification
- Illinois Pharmacy Technician license

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
