About the City Operations Team

Our team performs an essential role within the community. We provide maintenance services for green spaces like reserves, walkways, gardens, sand dunes, playgrounds, and much more. In addition to that we maintain Tauranga City Council managed facilities and buildings. Our team is focused on providing an efficient and quality service, our purpose is to make Tauranga better.

Te Tūranga | About the role

We are looking for an experienced Electrician to join our brand-new Facilities Team.

The focus of this role is to provide maintenance and repair services across a wide variety of TCC residential buildings and commercial assets. This includes reactive and planned maintenance and minor project work. We need a registered/ licensed Electrician that will be happy installing, repairing and maintaining all of our building’s and facilities electrical needs including replacing and repairing lighting systems, diagnosing system faults, repairing faults, minor installation work, repair of electrical wiring, cable installation and termination.

We need a proactive person that takes health and safety seriously, can work independently, can adapt to changes to the plan as they happen and understand the importance of keeping the community, customers and stakeholders happy.

  • Typical hours are 7am to 3.30pm, 40-hour week, but flexibility is required as some buildings assets may not be accessible during this time.
  • On-call work is part of this role (additional allowances will be paid), typically one week out of eight-week rotating roster.
  • Vehicle (not for private use) and all tools and specialist plant will be provided.

This role will be based out of our Ownes Place depot.

This role reports to the Supervisor – Facilities.

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed within the City Operations Team we are looking for:

  • Honesty and integrity (this is critical).
  • At least 5 years’ experience as an Electrician across residential and light industrial.
  • Relevant qualification such as the New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory and Practice (Trade) (Level 4).
  • Registration and licensing as an electrician by the NZ Electrical Workers Registration Board.
  • Independent Qualified Person registration/ compliance.
  • A curious nature where you love to understand how things work.
  • Availability for after-hours work from time to time to service our client base.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritise competing demands.
  • A strong attention to detail and proven problem-solving skills.
  • Technology savvy with the ability to use mobile apps and an ipad to track and report on work.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A track record of being reliable and a team player.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to listen and learn.
  • A full clean NZ drivers licence.
  • The ability to be a positive ambassador for TCC, interacting with all community members in a respectful and appropriate way.
