Main Purpose:

As part of the expansion of our trading desk, we are seeking an experienced Trader with a strong focus on Asian markets—specifically Japan, Australia, and South Korea. The role will be instrumental in developing long-term relationships across the region and identifying opportunities in the structured and mid-to-long term trading space.

The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of the power and commodities trading industry, strong analytical capabilities, and a proven track record in trading with a focus on Power Markets in the Asia-Pacific region, quantitative analysis and structuring, and stakeholder engagement.

Fluency in Korean and Mandarin is required; proficiency in Japanese is highly desirable.

This position demands the ability to design and execute trading strategies, effectively manage risk, and build lasting partnerships with key stakeholders across the region.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field, ideally from a top Asian university, ideally with studies in several Asian countries,
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the energy sector and biofuels with a strop exposure to commodities analytics and structured trading.
  • Strong analytical skills with a background in power derivatives trading, options strategies, and risk management.
  • Proficient in quantitative analysis and data-driven market insights, leveraging advanced skills in Python, VBA, SQL, and Power BI to automate reports, model market fundamentals, and develop proprietary trading tools.
  • Experienced in structuring and executing complex physical and financial deals, including OTC instruments with basis and FX risk management.
  • Fluent in English and Korean and Mandarin, Japanes is a big plus
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficient with risk management principles and trading systems,
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and make informed decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trade power derivatives and structured products in Australian and Japanese power markets,.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with counterparties and stakeholders across Asia-Pacific markets, including Australia, Japan, Korea, and Singapore.
  • Manage financial and operational risk across power trading portfolios, optimizing value through sophisticated options strategies, spreads, and carry trades.
  • Build and implement quantitative trading models and analytics tools to inform strategy development and market decision-making.
  • Originate and execute bespoke OTC financial solutions to meet client needs, including non-USD instruments and options
  • Monitor and analyze fundamental market drivers such as demand forecasts, weather, generation output, and regulatory changes to identify trading opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, settlements, and risk management to ensure smooth deal execution and accurate reporting.
  • Engage in long-term structuring and valuation of trading projects, including modeling asset values and managing physical optionality.
  • Support portfolio risk management for renewables assets and power purchasing agreements (PPAs), shaping renewable curves to optimize exposure.
  • Provide regular market intelligence, PnL reporting, and performance analysis to senior management.
  • Participate in industry forums and maintain an active network to stay abreast of market developments and expand business opportunities.
