The Systems Administrator I supports IT and OT infrastructure in a manufacturing environment, ensuring uptime, security, and performance across production systems and enterprise networks. This role provides hands-on support for servers, networks, and user access while assisting with documentation, compliance, and system monitoring.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows/Linux servers.
- Perform daily system health checks and monitoring.
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policies.
- Apply patches, updates, and security fixes for operating systems and software.
- Provide Level 2/3 support for LAN/WAN issues, including wired and wireless networks.
- Support shop floor systems (WMS, SCADA, HMIs) and interface with OT staff for patching and access control.
- Enforce endpoint protection and cybersecurity hygiene across IT systems.
- Monitor user access and support compliance requirements (NIST, ISO 27001, CMMC).
- Assist users with account access, permissions, and hardware troubleshooting.
- Train users on IT policies, safe practices, and proper system usage.
- Maintain IT documentation, licenses, and disaster recovery plans.
- Track hardware/software inventory and assist with SOP creation.
Education And Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent work experience may substitute.
- 1–3 years of IT support or system administration experience (junior level).
- Experience with IT in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Cisco CCNA) preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Proficiency with Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Active Directory.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
- Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash).
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls).
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Exposure to OT systems or MES environments is a plus.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with IT, OT, and cross-functional teams.
- Adaptability to evolving technologies and fast-paced environments.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and use computers and related IT equipment.
- May occasionally lift/move equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to bend, twist, and handle IT hardware safely.
- Required to wear safety shoes, glasses, and other PPE as applicable when on the production floor.
