Collins Aerospace is seeking a highly motivated and talented Technical Writing Specialist with knowledge in flight simulation, aviation, or aerospace to develop technical manuals that support the operation and maintenance of aircrew training systems.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing technical manual content necessary to support the customer mission.  You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and validate system level description, operation, theory of operation, troubleshooting, and preventive/corrective maintenance instructions.

What You Will Do:

  • Work independently to develop moderately complex technical manuals such as operation and maintenance manuals, maintenance instruction manuals, maintenance requirement cards, technical work cards, user manuals, instructor operator handbooks, training documentation, and other technical documentation.
  • Research and analyze Engineering drawings consisting of product tree, assembly, installation, parts list, cable list, wiring diagrams, and schematic diagrams as well as utilizes system architecture diagrams, Engineering specifications, and test procedures to develop new or revise existing technical manuals.
  • Work with engineers and other technical personnel to develop and verify technical manual content.
  • Develop illustrations and diagrams from Engineering drawings utilizing Adobe Illustrator and/or CorelDraw.
  • Participate in determining objectives of assignments.  Plan, schedule, and arrange your own activities to accomplish objectives.
  • Develop technical manuals and training documentation in accordance with various Military Specifications, Technical Manual Contract Requirements (TMCRs), Contract Data Requirement Lists (CDRLs), and Data Item Descriptions (DIDs).
  • Assign work and provide guidance to lower-level technical writers.
  • Provide editing and formatting support for Engineering documentation.
  • Participate in peer reviews of technical manuals and documentation developed by colleagues.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 5% of the time

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date 
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance 
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience in flight simulation, aviation, or aerospace industry
  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience using PTC Arbortext Editor
  • Experience using Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw
  • Experience using ALM (Confluence/Jira/Fisheye/Crucible), SVN, and GitHub

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. 

The salary range for this role is 90,000 USD - 182,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
