Overview:
The Foundry Employee Level 2 – Molding is responsible for creating molds, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring quality and safety in foundry operations. This role requires adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as maintaining accuracy and accountability through proper documentation and housekeeping practices.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Read and understand work instructions.
- Complete appropriate paperwork to ensure accuracy and accountability.
- Rig and operate up to 40,000 pounds with an overhead crane.
- Strike off a mold.
- Disassemble and reassemble flasks.
- Roll over a flask or dirt mold.
- Pull a hardened mold or flask from its pattern.
- Patch and repair any damaged molds.
- Analyze molding and casting defects to suggest corrective action.
- Use a Baume hydrometer to achieve proper density of mold wash.
- Apply mold wash using brush, spray, or flow coat.
- Promote good housekeeping.
- Inspect daily to proactively prevent downtime of tools and equipment.
- Organize and prepare patterns to be molded.
- Perform blender calibrations.
- Create molds from patterns or loose patterns.
- Stop off impeller cheeks.
- Understand basic principles of risers, runner systems, and down sprues.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Experience:
- Overhead cranes
- Rigging hardware
- Forklifts
- Blender
- Bobcat Loader
- Mold handler/manipulator
Physical Requirements:
Frequently:
- Standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, stooping
- Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 lbs.
Occasionally:
- Overhead work
- Climbing ladders or stairs
- Driving forklifts
- Operating cranes
