Position Purpose
As part of the Consolidation SG&A Finance team at Sleep Number, the Senior Financial Analyst supporting Selling Expense and Research & Development plays a critical role in managing the financials Sleep Number’s fleet of stores. This role provides financial insights and strategic support to business leaders within Sales Operations while working collaboratively with other finance professionals within the corporate Finance team. This position is responsible for financial modeling, analyzing financial and operational results, preparing forecasts, and supporting the budgeting process to drive informed decision-making and optimizing financial performance. Specific areas of focus include labor expense management and occupancy management and accounting.
The ideal candidate for this role is curious in nature as well as a nimble learner. In addition, the ideal candidate demonstrates resilient behavior in challenging business cycle through creative problem solving.
Primary Responsibilities
Financial Modeling & Analysis (40%)
- Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results; identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance detailed financial models for business units and corporate initiatives
- Perform ad hoc financial analyses to evaluate business scenarios and support business cases
Budgeting and Forecasting (20%)
- Collaborate with business partners to ensure forecast accuracy and alignment with company goals
- Support the development of the annual budget and long-range financial plans for assigned business partners
- Assist in preparing and updating rolling forecasts based on actual performance and business trends
Process Improvement (20%)
- Recommend improvements to financial planning processes and reporting workflows
- Work in partnership with Finance colleagues to consolidate financial information
- Contribute to the enhancement of financial systems and planning tools
- Support automation and standardization initiatives to improve efficiency
Business Partnering (10%)
- Partner with business leaders to provide actionable insights to support strategic decisions
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and assess business performance against targets
Reporting (10%)
- Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards, and analysis for senior management
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent work experience required
- 3+ years of related Finance experience required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities required including the ability to convert complex financial results into recommendations for business leaders
- Solid grasp of operational drivers that impact financial performance required such as Average Hourly Rate and store occupancy
- Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial insights to non-financial stakeholders required
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, ROI, and profitability analysis required
- Proficient in building, maintaining, and interpreting complex financial models required
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets required
- Experience with financial planning systems such as Hyperion, Oracle, Adaptive Insights, or similar tools preferred
- Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting tools required
Working Conditions and Schedule
- Hybrid schedule: three days in the office, two days remote
- Standard business hours, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening or weekend support as needed
