This full-time position is a suicide after-care service that was developed by Beyond Blue to address the gap of the continuity of care in the community for people discharged from hospital experiencing suicidality. TWBSS provides non-clinical, tailored support focused on connecting people with support for up to three months following discharge from The Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital. With funding from Brisbane North Primary Health Network, BYS will be delivering the program for young people aged 18 - 25 in the Brisbane north region in partnership with Communify.

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you:

  • Have a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Mental Health, Psychology, or comparable qualification OR substantial demonstrated experience in a related field supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Can demonstrate proven experience working with at-risk youth and families, with a solid understanding of homelessness and its impact on young people’s safety, wellbeing, and long-term outcomes.
  • Have in-depth understanding of suicidality and complex mental health issues in young people, including co-occurring challenges like substance use and social exclusion.
  • Are skilled in assessing young people's needs, including suicide risk assessments and safety planning, with a trauma-informed, youth-centred approach.
  • Have a strong ability to engage and collaborate with young people, carers, and services, using appropriate mental health supports and tailored interventions.
  • Have excellent communication, advocacy, and planning skills with the ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and handle competing demands.

Given the work that we do there will be a few non-negotiables. You’ll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • A Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • A National Coordinated Criminal History Check [Police Check].
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella [Chicken Pox], and Pertussis [Whooping Cough].

Our people enjoy benefits including salary packaging, flexible working arrangements, and additional annual leave per year (depending on your role).

We value the unique backgrounds, experiences and contributions that each person brings to our community and encourage and celebrate diversity. So, even if you don’t think you quite meet all of the skills listed or tick all the boxes, we’d still love to hear from you!
