About the Role

This position is based at the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP), on Spencer Street, Melbourne VIC.
The Melbourne Assessment Prison is a 15-bed acute assessment unit, providing statewide assessment services to male prisons received into the prison system. MAP is the first point of contact for all alleged offenders coming into the corrections system in Victoria.
The Social Worker is responsible for providing the ongoing development and planning of social work services by contributing to achieve and maintain a high standard of patient care on an acute forensic mental health unit. This entails recognising the needs of both individuals and families; within the boundaries set by professional standards, legislative requirements, organisational policies, practices and directives.

As the Grade 2 Social Worker you will:
• Provide support, advice and advocacy to patients, carers and families.
• Liaise, negotiate and deliver positive opportunities/outcomes for patients, and provide consultation to other clinical, disability support and welfare and support agencies.
• Participate in running educational or therapeutic groups.
• Continue to monitor service outcomes for patients and families, identifying gaps and deficiencies in service provision.
• Formulate and document client focused care co-ordination plans, with emphasis on more complex management issues.

About You:
• Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work coupled with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• Working knowledge and application of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards of practice in the delivery of care and social work interventions, preferably within a complex environment.
• A demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery and recovery-oriented practice.
