Description

Whittier College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Science and Mathematics to begin in August 2025.

The successful candidate will lead our Interdisciplinary Computer Science program, and will be expected to teach upper-level computer science courses such as: Operating Systems, Computer Organization and Architecture, Data Structures and Algorithms, Senior Seminar; and introductory requirements for the ICS major, such as Computer Science I & II, Discrete Mathematics, and Calculus, and occasionally some service courses below the calculus level.

Candidates will be judged primarily on their teaching ability, their preparation/potential to teach upper-level computer science courses, and their dedication to close interaction and research with undergraduates. Student advising and committee work are also expected and valued. Interest in teaching interdisciplinary courses such as our campus wide First Year Seminar is also highly desirable. The department is seeking highly qualified candidates with a clear commitment to supporting equity and inclusion among the faculty, student population, and of the majors in Computer Science and Mathematics. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and equity. Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related field, such as Mathematics or Applied Mathematics  (ABD considered if PhD will be completed by Aug. 2025).

Finalists will be required to have three confidential letters of reference, at least one of which addresses your teaching, to be sent by their references. Finalists will also be asked to conduct a teaching demonstration.
