SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: This class is responsible for general repair and maintenance of residential classes of electric and water meters. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, cleaning meters inspecting for worn/broken parts, replacing part/re-assembling meters; testing meters for proper recording of standardized measurement and accuracy; replacing/repairing/calibrating meters to meet applicable standards of accuracy; Conducting field visits to test all sizes of water meters; installing/troubleshooting residential smart AMI units; working with the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) system; repairing/maintaining records/reports of work activities, issuing/receiving meters and related equipment to and from PWC Personnel. Operates under general supervision of the Meter Services Manager, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Performs related work as required.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Manual/power tools, computer, MDT’s, vehicle, testing equipment, communication, and other equipment, as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures; good knowledge of meter standards and repair requirements as well as meter calibration procedures; good knowledge of tools/materials used in testing/repairing commercial/complex water meters; good knowledge of installing/troubleshooting AMR/AMI units; knowledge of the municipal water/sewer/electric service policies and procedures; skill in the use of hand tools and specialized equipment; ability to diagnose meter repair problems; ability to prepare/maintain accurate detailed records; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to work within Microsoft Excel/Office and Outlook, ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of four (4) years water meter repairing experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess/maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License. Must possess AWWA Grade C Meter Certificate at time of employment into the position. Ability to obtain AWWA Grade A Meter Certificate within 24 months of employment.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- SAFETY HAZARDS: Inclement weather, fluctuating temperatures, and other hazards associated with the position.
- PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: As required in the Public Works Commission’s Safety Manual.
Grade 406 $23.29-$30.68/Hour
