Job Description

Gilead Sciences Japan is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated professional capable of working effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

The successful candidate will assume a full- time employment in the Liver Business Unit and report to the Business Unit Head.

In this Liver Sales Planning Director role, you will play a key role in driving the commercial strategy and sales plan execution across the Liver Franchise

Work with Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, Commercial Operations, Public Affairs, Human Resources, finance, and other relevant teams to drive the development and implementation of an integrated commercial sales strategy.

Ensure that the Liver Business Unit achieves the sales goals and the target shares through facilitation of PDCA planning cycle and maximization of Commercial Capability & Competency.

Lead strategic rotation/shifting of RDs/TSs to make sure best talents are in place where they are needed.

Key Responsibilities

Optimizing organization, sales structure, and resource allocation

  • Examine and propose the appropriate organization and territory for the business situation to strengthen the organization and improve results
  • Recruit, develop and coach human resources and contribute to organizational enhancement
  • Propose strategic OPEX plans and reconfigurations to optimize resource allocation

Improve contribution to strategic and tactical planning

  • Work with Marketing, Medical, Commercial Operations and other departments to develop optimal business plans
  • Lead KPI and KGI formulation, PDCA consensus building, and effectiveness evaluation in line with POA
  • Enhance contact with customers and sales, identify strategic insights, and promote hypothesis testing

Strengthen execution of strategies and tactics

  • Develop and improve sales plans to maximize departmental results
  • Examine targeting and make proposals with a view to maximizing business
  • Lead the planning, facilitation, and management of decisions at various Business Unit meetings
  • Establish a framework for priority institutions with related departments and strengthen the measures
  • Create a system to collect and deploy effective initiatives
  • Identify issues and opportunities from sales activities, and propose actions based on deep insights
  • Lead the development of templates for sales reporting documents in line with POAs, KGIs, and KPIs
  • Maintain various reports and data inputs that visualize progress on KGIs and KPIs to improve results
  • Promote effective and efficient use of sales support tools
  • Consider and implement measures to improve operational efficiency within the Business Unit

Improve collaboration within and outside the Business Unit

  • Lead cross-departmental collaboration including MKT/Sales/Medical/Commercial Operations to contribute to high-quality decision-making
  • Lead Cross departmental Key Account Management in Medical and commercial collaboration
  • Coordinate among departments to formulate and disseminate rules that promote Cross Business Unit collaboration
  • Participate in and contribute to various internal projects and lead execution
  • Propose and lead the implementation of measures to improve internal collaboration
  • Manage, operate, and improve various internal systems in coordination with other departments
  • Coordinate with Business Unit Director in setting up and driving sales related meetings with co-promotion companies
  • Confirm focused activities with co-promotion companies and visualize execution status

Compliance-Related Support

  • Serve as the contact person for departmental counterparts in accordance with Company rules and promote compliance adherence
  • Responsible for internal and external rule dissemination within the Business Unit, and proposal and coordination with relevant departments
  • Lead various compliance-related measures
  • Lead the Audit and various monitoring actions

  • Operational Efficiency Capabilities:                                                                                                    Propose and promote the optimization of resource allocation within and outside the department, taking into consideration priorities
  • DX literacy:                                                        Drive the utilization of technology (AI/digital) to improve productivity
  • Understanding Sales Support Tools and Data Structures:                                                      Expertise in sales support tools, able to promote strategic use of data, and appropriately involved in building data in departmental linkages
  • English Skills:                                              English skills for business communication with Japan Leadership Team and Business Unit Director, and presentation skills in English
  • Education, Knowledge, Experience
  • 5+ years of sales experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably with previous experience in liver or GI markets
  • 3+ years of successful people leadership experience, preferably in sales management or commericall department in the pharmaceutical industry (Line manager experience required, 3+ years preferred)
  • Ability to think strategically (accurate analysis and planning of countermeasures) and have experience in achieving results through proposals.
  • Excellent performance and results in the sales or commercial department.
  • Passionate about maximizing the value of the Liver Franchise product portfolio
  • Ability to translate complex analyses into business insights and explain them logically.
  • Proven ability to solve business problems (high level communication and negotiation skills) and experience in translating problem solving into improved departmental outcomes.
  • Patient-centered mindset, resilience, high integrity, learning agility, and abstract thinking skills.
  • Possess leadership skills to always ensure compliance and encourage others to do so.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing/business/science or related field required.
  • A higher graduate degree, such as an MBA or other advanced business degree, is preferred.
  • Fluent Japanese and basic business English language skills (approximate: TOEIC score of 730 or higher, 800 or higher preferred) required.
