The role will also actively interact with the Team Lead, Short Term Analytics (Dubai) and Team Lead, Mid/Long Term Analytics (Singapore) and their team to form a global analytical narrative across multiple time horizons. This is a high-profile position within SEIF, SLMT and the wider organization because of the critical importance of understanding Northeast Asia’s gas market evolution, particularly China, for Trading & Supply and Shell’s success. The position will focus on multiple stakeholders across different forecast horizons:

  • SLMT Short-Term LNG trading: The analyst will also take an active role in delivering and communicating SEIF’s global Short-Term market calls and narratives on a three-year horizon with the Singapore trading desk.
  • SLMT Portfolio Optimization and Origination: The role will provide critical analytical inputs to SEIF’s global market narrative over the next two decades; as well as supporting specific market and counterpart opportunities over the same time horizon.
  • Integrated Gas/Upstream and Corporate and Investor Relations: The analyst will drive the wider organization’s long-term and strategic thinking for Northeast Asia, which includes supporting the annual Shell LNG Outlook publication externally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Forecast monthly LNG imports for each country using sector-level demand modeling - power generation, industrial use, buildings (heating/cooling), and transport. Additional modelling for domestic production and pipeline imports will also be needed for China.
  • Aggregate contractual terms to forecast spot and/or open LNG demand.
  • Monitor market signals (news, government data, pricing, shipping flows, vendor forecasts) and adjust analysis accordingly.
  • Build and refine models in Excel and DSML platforms (e.g., DataIKU) for short-, mid- and long-term forecasting (0–20 year horizon). Develop visualization screens and dashboards to best communicate model outputs and takeaways.
  • Deliver country-, region- and global-level insights and market calls to traders, originators, and strategic teams during in-person meetings and wider video calls.
  • Benchmark forecasts against vendors and understanding core differences in forecast beliefs. Back test models and forecasts and adjustment as needed to improve accuracy and insights.
  • Consistently improve forecasting approaches including the development of alternate outcomes with associated probabilities.
  • Initiate, communicate, manage and deliver predictive analytics and digital tools through SEIF’s Pod Structure: teams of analysts, data scientists/engineers and IDT developers.
  • Interface with SLMT and SET trading desks, as well as strategic Shell functions to collect market insights and intelligence from counter parties to calibrate and models, forecasts and analysis.
  • Deliver ad hoc analysis as requested by key stakeholders.
