Position Title: Security CommissionerReports To: Staff Captain
Position SummaryThe Security Commissioner’s primary responsibility is to implement and enforce the ship’s security policies. The Security Commissioner’s main duty hours shall be during the day or as directed by the Staff Captain (SSO).Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesHapag Lloyd Cruises expects each shipboard employee to consistently exemplify the principles of the Brand services and excellence programs to all team members. In addition, all duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with ISM/ISO, ISPS, CVSSA and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, Environmental, and Safety policies.Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and throughout the ship.It is every employee’s responsibility to conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crewmember areas.1. The Security Commissioner shall have an understanding of the Safety & QualityManagement Program, including his/her responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the approved Emergency Plan.2. The Security Commissioner shall participate in maintaining good order and conduct throughout the vessel.5. The Security Commissioner shall assist the Staff Captain (SSO) preparing a watch schedule for the crew assigned to security duties (aka Security Team) and ensure the team is readilyavailable.6. The Security Commissioner is responsible for the operation and routine maintenance of all security equipment and the training of personnel in the use of such equipment. Any malfunctions shall be reported to the Staff Captain.7. The Security Commissioner shall assist the Staff Captain when conducting frequent inspections in the Crew area and cabins.8. The Security Commissioner shall monitor the security operation and prepare a brief report for the Staff Captain to address any serious matter that might have occurred.9. He/she shall be involved in the implementation and improvement of the accident prevention and environmental protection programs, in cooperation with the Safety team onboard.10. In cooperation with other departmental heads and supervisors, the Security Commissioner shall conduct relevant meeting/training discussing Security related matters to increase overall awareness.11. The Security Commissioner shall train all the new Crewmembers on security matters.12. The Security Commissioner shall make observations and bring any suggestions for improvement to the Staff Captain’s attention.Financial Responsibilities Financial responsibilities for budget, expenses and/or achievement of revenue targets.· This position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of records, reports, supplies and equipment.Motivational Responsibilities People management responsibilities to ensure optimal performance of the function.· Mentors, develops and provides on-the-job training to his/her staff to strengthen their current performance and preparation for future advancement.Qualifications Minimum hiring, language and physical requirements to perform the job.Hiring Requirements:· Professional education in shipboard security methods, both physical anddocumentary with special emphasis on disciplinary measure, drug abuse and narcotic trafficking.Interview techniques and anti-terrorist countermeasures.· Individual should have basic knowledge or awareness of minor criminal activity.· Knowledge of security equipment and training on security and anti-terrorist matters.Printed 12/15/2021. Ability to utilize and administer the company’s disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment.· Working knowledge of computers, Internet access, and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages such as Excel, Word, or related programs.Language Requirements:· Ability to speak German and English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.· Ability to read and write English, in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.· Ability to speak additional languages preferred.Physical Requirements:· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.· All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills.
