Legal Officer Grade IV - Parramatta 

  • Salary range $144,058 - $146,831

  • Lead a supportive and committed Civil Law team in Parramatta working to improve access to justice for clients who are experiencing disadvantage.   

About Us

Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas of criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices. 

About The Role

As a Grade IV Legal Officer in the Civil Law Division, you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality legal services to clients who are in vulnerable and disadvantaged circumstances across a broad range of civil law matters. These include housing, social security, NDIS, employment, human rights, mental health, and consumer law. 

You Will:

  • Provide expert legal advice, minor assistance, and casework services. 
  • Conduct an efficient and effective legal practice in line with Legal Aid NSW standards. 
  • Supervise and mentor junior solicitors and contribute to the leadership of the Civil Law Division. 
  • Represent clients in courts and tribunals, including complex matters. 
  • Engage in community outreach and build strong relationships with service delivery partners.  
  • Ensure compliance with the Legal Aid Commission Act 1979, Legal Aid NSW policies, and practice management standards.

About You

You are a highly experienced civil law practitioner with a strong commitment to social justice and a passion for helping people overcome disadvantage.  

You Bring:

  • Demonstrated expertise in housing, NDIS, and social security law, including advocacy in tribunal and court proceedings. 
  • Proven ability to supervise and support legal staff while managing your own caseload. 
  • A commitment to in person collaboration, with the capacity to maintain a strong presence in our office in line with our Office Flexible Work Plan  
  • A collaborative and strategic mindset, with experience contributing to team leadership. 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds. 
  • A strong track record in community legal education, outreach, and stakeholder engagement.

The essential requirements for this role 

You Must:

  • be admitted as a legal practitioner in NSW 
  • be able to provide a current, unrestricted NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us 
  • be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check 
  • hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies)
