Insurance Specialist I (Amusement Rides Specialist) 

This position performs entry-level technical insurance and data entry work in the Inspections Processing Program of the Inspections Office, part of the Property and Casualty Division. Work involves reviewing and auditing documentation for accuracy and completeness, determining compliance with the Texas Insurance Code, and maintaining files and databases. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. 

This Position:

  • Maintains records and files; performs data entry; and executes queries to determine expiration dates and compile reports for web publication.
  • Prepares, tracks, sends, and receives correspondence; advises interested parties of compliance, complaints, and enforcement of amusement ride operations.
  • Responds to inquiries; researches, responds to, and processes open records requests; collects, organizes, analyzes, and/or prepares materials in response to requests for program information and reports.
  • Audits amusement ride documentation including policies, inspection certificates, amusement ride photographs, serial numbers, and filing fees for accuracy and completeness.
  • May review, process, and determine compliance of operators with the Amusement Ride Act.
  • May monitor and maintain the amusement ride database, suggest and evaluate upgrades and changes, and ensure technology and available data meet program needs.
  • May recommend program activities and improvements, problem resolutions, proposed legislation, operational improvements, and budgetary needs; may assist with the preparation and submission of reports on program performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Thirty college hours.
  • Six months of experience in technical insurance matters or in a field relative to assignment.
  • Regular work attendance.

  • State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements.
  • Insurance principles and practices.
  • Business or program terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques, and procedures.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • Problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.

·         Maintaining Records.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines.
  • Work both independently and as a team player.
  • Select and accurately transcribe data from several source documents.
  • Perform a series of procedural steps.
