The San Antonio District is posting an Engineering Tech position in the Advanced Transportation Planning Office. The San Antonio Area is the 7th largest metropolitan area in the United States, and is experiencing rapid population growth throughout the region. The Advanced Planning Office plays a key role in planning, developing, and funding large and small scale transportation projects to meet the growing needs of this region. In order to help address these needs, we are looking to add a skilled technician to our office to design and oversee the development of schematics, feasibility studies, traffic studies, and more. This technician would gain valuable experience in a wide range of areas, such as: the environmental process (NEPA), the programming of projects for various transportation plans, consultant management, project management, public involvement activities, as well as interaction will public groups and agencies. Annual Salary Ranges
Transportation Engineer Tech I (A16) - $40,918- $61,130
Transportation Engineer Tech II (A18) - $45,521- $71,055
This position is for a Transportation Engineer Tech I or II depending on business need and applicant's qualifications. TxDOT reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on business needs and the applicants work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors.

Position Description
Performs intermediate design work and calculations; performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
- Essential Duties:
- Transportation Engineer Tech I
- Performs basic design work.
- Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments.
- Prepares field notes.
- Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.
- Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
- Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.
- Works on reproduction of plans.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer Tech II
In addition to the duties listed above
- Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians.
- Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
- Performs intermediate design work.
- Prepares environmental documents.
- Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
- Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings.
- Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:
Transportation Engineer Tech I: No Experience Required
Transportation Engineer Tech II: 2 years of experience in drafting, design, plan preparation.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
