As part of Jellycat’s ambitious growth plans we are looking to appoint Legal Counsel (Privacy & Commercial). The successful candidate role will ensure compliance with our data protection obligation across the entire business (with specific focus on EU, China, USA), including supporting our direct to consumer E-commerce, Marketing, Fan Engagement and People colleagues with all aspects of data privacy. This is a newly created role, data privacy matters will take priority followed by advising on a broad range of commercial matters.
You'Ll Be;
- Leading the data privacy function within the global business, ensuring compliance with our data protection obligations including GDPR, CCPA, PIPL and other international privacy obligations.
- Setting strategic and operational plans, including the annual training plan and execute these across all teams in the business.
- Providing actionable commercial advice to ecommerce, marketing, fan engagement and People teams, to identify, assess and mitigate data privacy risks.
- Conducting data protection impact assessments (DPIA’s) and legitimate interest assessments (LIA’s)
- Reviewing and approving all new projects that process customer or employee data.
- Working with the Head of Information Security, enhance our data breach response and incident management processes.
- Managing and supporting responses to all day-to-day privacy queries, including DSARs and any regulatory enquiries.
- Supporting the wider commercial legal team to review, negotiate and complete contracts for the supply of goods and services.
- Managing and coordinating our external privacy advisors within the allocated legal budget.
You'Ll Have;
- Fully qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience.
- Experience in a law firm and/or the legal department of a consumer focused company within the luxury/FMCG/retail sector.
- Know-how in all data privacy aspects that impact a global direct to consumer retail business.
- Highly motivated with a bias for action and able to function independently in a high growth and fast paced environment.
- The ability to act decisively but sensitively, driving projects to successful conclusions.
- Management of outside counsel and legal spending.
- Very good interpersonal skills and influencing skills; strong, flexible team player and collaborator that works to meet both personal and organization goals.
- Capability to analyse complex legal and policy issues from a commercial perspective.
- Excellent organization, execution and project management skills.
