Akamai's Infrastructure Engineering & Operations organization builds and maintains Akamai's Platform - one of the world's largest distributed platforms. Our Server Hardware Engineering team is responsible for designing, qualifying, and testing servers destined for our growing network.

As a Hardware Engineer, you will develop, validate, manage the lifecycle and document Akamai's server hardware platforms destined for our growing network. You will also interact with our vendors, often evaluating pre-release hardware and providing Akamai's input into their future product design.
As a Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Developing, building, testing, and maintaining the Akamai server hardware
- Creating specifications and designing documentation for server systems
- Validating pre-production systems to ensure quality and performance
- Supporting the full hardware development lifecycle, from conception to deployment, delivering high-quality platforms and Escalations.
- Collaborating with industry partners, OEM/ODM suppliers, and internal teams to design efficient, reliable, and high-performance computing systems
- Managing hardware failure escalations and coordinating resolutions with OEM/ODM suppliers for deployed systems
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Be experienced in the hardware development lifecycle(pre-production samples validation, mass production, etc)
- Possess expertise in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a closely related field of study.
- Master server components like Disk, RAM, NIC, and GPU, including processes for evaluating their functionality.
- Demonstrate expertise in lab systems, infrastructure (switches/routers, fiber optics), and practical failure analysis experience.
- Utilize Python and Bash scripting for automation, diagnostics, system administration, and understand low-level software fundamentals.
- Be familiar with Linux operating systems and a basic foundation in reliability engineering.
- Demonstrate passion for computers and electronics, with quick learning ability and adaptability to emerging technologies.
