Job Summary
This position assesses applications for admission against a variety of factors, including the applicant’s academic and personal strengths and weaknesses as well as their potential contributions to the Colorado College community; analyzes academic credentials, reading recommendations and essays and other application documents, and provides the Admissions Committee with a summary evaluation.
This position runs from October through the end of March. Training will take place in late October, and each reader will be expected to read work up to 24 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Serve as mentor to assistant directors and admission counselors. Advise staff on the nuances of holistic admission; help staff manage relationships with school counselors; and provide direction for thoughtful and fair admission decisions within a highly competitive admission landscape.
- Guide admission sub-committee discussions and presentations; advise the Dean of Admission on strategies for meeting admission goals related to tuition revenue, racial diversity and academic quality.
- Review up to 150 applications per week, assessing each applicant’s competitiveness in the Colorado College applicant pool.
- Manage a solo reading load as required. Review each application independently, leveraging previous admission experience and knowledge of institutional priorities to provide a final recommendation to the Dean of Admission.
- In a team-reading structure, mentor junior staff to build their holistic application review skills and advise them on strategies to improve their performance and acuity.
- Work with the senior leadership team to make comprehensive and fair admission decisions in support of enrollment goals.
- Support and advocate for students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups; students from low-income families; and first-generation college students in the admission recruitment and evaluation process
- Actively support the college’s commitment to be an antiracist institution by understanding, engaging with, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the college community.
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
- Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting the college’s sustainability initiatives and innovation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and four or more years of application review experience in a selective or highly selective admission content.
- Ability to review and assess a high volume of applications and meet specific deadlines;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Excellent written communications skills;
- Excellent reading comprehension;
- Significant knowledge of higher education admission work;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Sound judgement; and ability to develop strong and collaborative working relationships with colleagues and key-stakeholders from different backgrounds including those associated with race, ethnicity, nation origin, religion, socio-economic status, gender, age, disability and sexual orientation.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:
- $27.00 - $28.00 per hour
