AI Operations Engineer (Python, AWS) – Remote

As a member of Mutual of Omaha’s AI Operations team, you will partner with Data Science teams across the company to deploy and monitor AI solutions. This team sits at the intersection of AI Governance and GenAI Enablement, ensuring AI models are not only scalable and secure, but also responsible, fair and explainable. 

As an AI Operations Engineer, you will focus on the day-to-day reliability, monitoring, and optimization of AI applications in production. This role ensures that deployed AI and generative AI services are always available, efficient, and cost-effective. You will build observability, automation, and scaling capabilities that allow our AI ecosystem to run smoothly at an enterprise scale.

• Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment. 
• Engineer II: $115,000 - $135,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
• Engineer III: $135,000 - $155,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.

What You'Ll Do:

• Operate and maintain AI applications running on AWS Bedrock and SageMaker, ensuring uptime, reliability, and scalability. Optimize AI workloads for efficiency, responsiveness, and cost-effectiveness. 
• Implement observability practices, including monitoring, logging, and alerting for AI services. 
• Partner with Data Scientists and engineers to ensure deployed models and APIs meet performance and reliability requirements. 
• Automate operational tasks such as scaling, deployments, and incident response. 
• Stay current on best practices in AI operations, generative AI services, and cloud-native observability. 

What You’Ll Bring:

• 5+ years of professional development experience including building and deploying applications with Python. 
• Familiarity with AWS services including Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, and infrastructure as code (CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation). 
• Practical experience with monitoring and observability stacks (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana). Monitoring using Evals and Fairness testing. 
• Knowledge of deploying and operating AI/ML applications in production environments. 
• Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, with ability to work across Data Science and Engineering teams.

• Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

Preferred:

• Experience with incident management, reliability engineering, or SRE practices. 
• Familiarity with vector databases, orchestration frameworks (LangChain, Ray, MCP), or RAG-based architectures. 
• Exposure to optimizing generative AI models for performance and scalability in production.
