The National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer an Exempt, Full-time, 5-Year Term position that will support private landowner engagement and implementation of cross boundary fire risk reduction projects in Idaho.

About the NFF: The National Forest Foundation was chartered by Congress in 1993 and is the official national partner of the US Forest Service (USFS). The Foundation leads with impact through three pillars of work: wildfire risk reduction, reforestation, and recreation for all. NFF works closely with communities and organizations across the nation to help advance the Foundation’s mission to restore, enhance and connect all Americans to National Forests and Grasslands.

The Foundation has grown significantly in the last few years in programmatic impact, revenue, and organizational capacity. Moreover, as a leader in forest conservation, the Foundation deploys 90% of its expenses towards projects and programs across the country’s 193-million-acre National Forest System. Position Function: The Southwest Idaho Project Coordinator reports to the Intermountain Region Program Manager. The Coordinator will support private forest landowner and community engagement, and project management for fire risk reduction efforts on private forests across southwest Idaho as part of a broader scope of cross boundary landscape risk reduction efforts. The Coordinator will work closely with NFF’s Wildfire Resilience team and local NFF Field Staff, as well as coordinate and collaborate with partners, to support all aspects of stewardship project planning and implementation.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Southwest Idaho Project Coordinator will:

  • Work closely with the Wildfire Resilience Program Coordinator and partners to coordinate private lands stewardship programs, support place-based project development, and collaborate on landscape-scale cross-boundary efforts to improve wildfire resilience and respond to community-identified needs.
  • Engage and support non-industrial private forest landowners in accessing cost share assistance programs for forest management and wildfire resilience offered across the Southwest Idaho All-Lands Partnership, specifically the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) NFF is implementing in southwest Idaho.
  • Organize, implement, and attend local community events and activities such as site visits, demonstrations, field trips, and town halls to promote program offerings and the All-Lands Partnership.
  • Work directly with contractors, consultants, nonprofit organizations, agency partners, and/or private landowners to coordinate the on-the-ground implementation of logging, non-commercial thinning, and/or fuels management projects effectively and efficiently that benefit wildfire resilience.
  • Maintain, track, and submit records for private landowner stewardship programs and outcome-tracking.
  • Support reporting associated with grants from federal, state, and local government sources, as well as philanthropic support from corporations, foundations, and individuals.
  • Maintain a breadth of knowledge about current trends, emerging issues, policy interventions, and innovations in the field of wildfire risk reduction to enhance the NFF strategic efficacy.
  • Provide support to the NFF Boise and Payette Program Coordinators as needed for project layout, implementation, and oversight of forest treatments on National Forest lands.
Requirements

Education and Qualifications: The NFF expects the Southwest Idaho Project Coordinator to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience with proven results in project management, conservation programs, and partnership development.
  • A strong knowledge of and experience in forest management practices, policies, procedures, and regulations. Preferably with experience in the state of Idaho forest management rules and regulations.
  • Experience working with private landowners in stewardship/assistance programs.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), preferably with experience as or working with a technical service provider (TSP).
  • Knowledge of forest management related to wildfire risk reduction strategies and issues
  • Demonstrated success coordinating multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience working effectively in collaborative efforts with individuals or groups with varying views of resource management.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS online and basic cartography and map design.
  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources conservation or related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred though not required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Abilities and Skills: The NFF expects the Southwest Idaho Project Coordinator to possess the following proven abilities and skills:

  • Ability to manage programs collaboratively, evaluate outcomes against quantifiable measures of success, develop reports, and clearly communicate program outcomes.
  • Ability to manage a variety of projects and tasks, effectively, to successful completion.
  • Ability to work independently, attend meetings (virtual and in person), and manage projects with minimal oversight.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly, work in outdoor conditions and maintain a flexible work schedule, including participation in some weekend and evening events.
  • Ability to represent the NFF in a clear and professional manner. 
  • Excellent communication skills through oral and written mediums
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively plan and problem solve.
  • A valid U.S. Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Location: The location for this position is within Valley, Adams, Ada, or Boise Counties in Idaho state. Applicants must be able to travel regularly throughout the region. This position is a remote/work-from-home position and requires reliable internet access and a vehicle.

Compensation: The NFF offers a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our total rewards strategy. The starting salary range for this position is $68,000 to $82,750, with the ability to grow to $97,500 based on performance outcomes over time and assessed annually. NFF monitors mandated state minimum wage updates.  Individual state conditions will be honored during the offer process.
