Description
The New Hampshire Food Bank is seeking a full-time Culinary Job Training Chef Instructor to join our team. Do you have a passion for mentoring and training others, and a desire to help students build the cooking skills they need to pursue careers in the culinary industry? This is an opportunity to share your expertise while making a positive difference in the lives of people across New Hampshire.
The Culinary Job Training Chef Instructor plays a key role in carrying out the mission of the NH Food Bank’s Culinary Job Training (CJT) program. This position provides culinary instruction, job readiness training, and ServSafe certification while mentoring students to prepare them for employment in the food service industry. In addition, the role supports outreach efforts by coordinating and executing catering and food trailer events.
We offer a great work environment with generous benefits, including health, dental, vision, 401K, and life insurance along with other fringe benefits.
Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the CJT program: teach culinary and job readiness skills, deliver ServSafe training, and prepare students for employment.
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor students—monitoring progress, evaluating outcomes, and ensuring adherence to program standards and food safety guidelines.
- Plan and oversee food production opportunities in collaboration with the Culinary Manager and production team.
- Proctor ServSafe exams for students and staff.
- Manage supply and equipment needs; communicate with Culinary Manager for ordering.
- Organize, plan, and execute catering and food trailer events, ensuring quality, safety, and readiness of the food truck.
- Maintain accurate records and data for attendance, grades, certifications, and reporting needs (including grant support).
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, and businesses to support student recruitment, training, and job placement.
- Support food safety and culinary needs for NH Food Bank events and fundraisers.
- Ensure compliance with Feeding America guidelines, state and local food safety regulations, and internal SOPs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 5–7 years of experience in a commercial kitchen and/or catering environment.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills for tracking student progress and program data.
- ServSafe Instructor/Proctor certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Prior experience training or mentoring employees in a kitchen setting is strongly preferred.
