Provide assistance to the Surveyor and performs duties as directed, by making exact measurements and supporting all disciplines with a quality layout for unit installation. Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, construction, and other purposes. Holds level or rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys. Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation. • Cuts and clears brush and trees or other possible obstructions from line of survey. • Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain. • Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scratches or stakes. • Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs. • Help calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain or current installations. • Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features. • Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy. • Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested. Understand that no job is so important that your safety and that of your crew will be compromised. Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional. • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed. • Participate in all STA work planning and safety discussions; Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards. • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens). • Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag out procedures. Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as out lined in training. • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment. • Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately. • Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job. • Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities with co-workers in your craft when provided. • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards. • Learn to read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions. Point out deficiencies, explain them, and take corrective action needed. • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. Notify supervision of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority as as needed. • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision. • If certified to operate equipment ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order, and Daily Equipment Inspections are completed for equipment being used. • Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision. • Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor

Requirements

Job Qualifications

At least 1 years of experience working in the industrial construction field with layout or survey responsibilities. Must have a developing knowledge of layout and survey work using mathematics to solve problems by adding and subtracting, multiplication and dividing and perform these operations using units of measurement for distance and have a general understanding of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry, and be able to verify mathematical calculations for gathering physical survey data, document technical design details, analyze physical, survey, or geographic data, survey land to measure or determine features, determine operational criteria or specifications, calibrate scientific or technical equipment, calculate geographic positions from survey data. Ability to understand and follow directions. Must be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. WORK CONDITIONS • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. • Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas, see and hear naturally or with correction. • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. • Requires repetitive movement. • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. • Work up to a 10-12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. 3 Surveyor - Rodman • Typical construction site environment • Requires working in very hot or very cold temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. • Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. • Work around hazardous equipment. • This position is considered a safety sensitive position
