Summer 2026 IT Applications Engineering Systems Internship – Programmer/Developer!
Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is seeking Summer 2026 IT Intern to join our IT Application Engineering Systems Team as Programmer/Developer. In this role, you’ll design, develop, and maintain custom applications (front-end and back-end) software used by our Engineering team. These applications include both custom-built and vendor solutions designed to optimize engineers’ daily operations, improving efficiency, productivity, and success rates. Your work will focus on data collection, validation, and preparing data for transmission planning studies and processes. These tools are critical to helping the Engineering team and SPP’s members plan for the future of the transmission grid.
Internship Overview
- Duration: 10–12 weeks, full-time (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
- Format: Onsite internship with rotations to various IT departments as needed
- Compensation: Paid internship with housing available (if needed)
- Engagement: Teaming activities and professional development opportunities outside of regular work hours
- Capstone: Interns will deliver a final presentation showcasing lessons learned and knowledge gained
Key Responsibilities
- IT Concepts & Tools: Gain hands-on experience with SPP’s IT systems, tools, and software relevant to your role.
- Project Work: Complete assignments under the direction of IT leads and supervisors, supporting areas such as stakeholder committees, settlements, data services, reliability systems, market services, and IT support.
- Teamwork & Collaboration: Contribute technical support to help project groups meet critical deadlines.

What We're Looking For
- College student entering their senior year working toward a bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Interest in programming, software development, and IT systems
- An expressed desire to work in the power industry
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to learn and contribute to real-world IT projects
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type, Locations and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a temporary, onsite summer 2026 internship. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
